Radio dies after 18volume

i jus got my rx7 a few months ago. The previous owner took his deck out and i had to put my own deck in there. he had some red speaker wire coming from all speakers, and it was pretty thick too, like the size of a fat nail. anyways i hooked it all up, and if i turn it up past 18, the radio shuts off and then comes back on, if i keep it below 18 it plays non stop. Do i need a small amplifier? or is the speaker wire to thick for the cd player?

Low voltage going to the radio

Or

A speaker short from a speaker wire touching something

Or

Blown speakers

Or

Mis-wired radio

Or

You are overdriving the radio (running the volumn so load that the sound is disorting or sounds "fuzzy" or staticy

well when it was playing...it sounded real nice...so i dont think it blown speakers or wire touching something... but idk which wire is what as far as the factory harness. it all operates fine...it just the volume thing... i dont think its the cd player, cuz it was workin fine in the camaro I had. And I dont have that cd player anymore.

so if someone culd tell me what color wire is what coming from the factory harness? theres like one big fat grey wire too...it looks like a brand new wire... im using that as a ground wire.

Not enough power to the radio. When the volume is above a certain level, the unit tries to draw too much current, can't, and dies for a second.
