quick subwoofer question...

Removed an Infinity "basslink" which sounded great to put in a JL 10w6 with box.

Well results were not like I expected and before I jump to conclusions wanted to ask a quick question...

The amp is a 33440 4/3/2 eclipse amp. 1/2 channels are running my fronts 6.5 kappa perfects. 3/4 channel are bridged and wired to sub, the RCAs stem from the sub out on the deck eclipse "deadhead" 6051. The sub out level on the deck is almost maxed out at 15.

The 6.5 levels are eclipsing the subwoofer that starts to thump only when volume is maxxed out which is when the fronts are starting to distort.

How do I balance the levels front to sub. Can hardly hear the subs at normal volumes while the basslinks sounded awesome!

thanks

My guess (and it's just a guess) is that your amp isn't giving your W6 enough power. The big JL's need a hefty amp to power them. You can try adjusting your gain controls, but be carefull not to fry your amp or blow your speakers. If you hear any clipping, turn the gains down quick.

The 3/4 channel drive at 240 watt rms at 4ohms bridged. The 10w6 is a 6ohm dvc which loads 3 ohm. the bridged amp therefore "sees" 1.5 ohms (oops) this might overload the amp to clip but it should not thump at this loading. hmmmm....professionally made box nad installed new sub.

Not familiar with your head, but try taking the 3/4 input from the rear pre outs on the head. Then you can use the fader to adjust the volume between the front stage and the sub. You may also just need to adjust the input gains on the amp to balance the front and sub with your present connection.

FWIW I only have a component set up front and a single 10" sub, no rear speakers. I run a 4 channel amp just like you with half of it bridged running the sub. I adjusted the gains on the amp so that it sounds like I wish with the fader zeroed, but then I can adjust this balance on the fly with the fader whenever I wish.
