From what I understand they increase the visibilty and serve as a show piece. You can convert them to HID's unless they now come that way? So I guess it's a little of both.

I'm not aware of anyone who's successfully converted their Amemiya flushmounts to HID...do you have pics or a link? I've heard that there's no room to install HID's in there, seeing as how you have to cut part of the metal framework back behind the light to just mount the standard kit.

Actually all my friends who have them complain that they can't see crap out of them even with all 4 lights on. The angle is bad on them and the light reflects off the covers back in to the lights.

out of curiosity - are the people that are switching to flush mount lights doing it because they want to be different or because they don't like pop-ups?

I've always liked pop-up lights & don't understand the trend of switching to flush mount. Case in point - the new NSX. Man those lights are ugly. I think most of the FD conversions look like crap too, and I've heard that most of them reduce your visibility because of their angle.

I'm not a big fan of pop-up lights and the non-popup lights give the car a different look. The light beam does suck ... but you can work to lift the light assembly up so it doesn't shine into the shells as much. Also lots of info now about getting new lamps ... H9 Hella as opposed to H3/H4 IPF junk. I think in the end lighting fixes will be really really good, but takes some work.

I like pop-ups. It is cool to see people turn their heads when your lights go up as you fly by at WOT. Plus, the RE kit cots too damn much!!!
