Faspac hood effect on temps

I've noticed lately that on my PFC, with the Faspac hood, I'm seeing water temps of 77C (fan mod) and air temps of 36-37C in freeway driving to work. Last night, as an experiment, I switched back to the stock hood for the drive this morning. Weather was about the same, and I saw 79C water, and 39C air. This isn't a very big sample, but over the next few days we'll have a better idea how the vented hoods effect temps. Also, though these differences are small, I'd expect the gap to widen on the track. Just FYI.

And if you're interested, my IC is the Greddy SMIC with a custom, sealed duct I made.

Well, after a week, the temps are the same, 39 - 41C intake temp with the oem hood, and water temps of 79 - 81 C. Going to the track this weekend, and switching to the vented hood. Too bad I can't bring both to compare them.

The build quality is pretty mediocre, but it fits the price ($550). You can get them at faspacracing.com. They're actually made by Karbonlite. The vents location does have some problems with the taller airboxes / SMIC's, so think about it before proceeding.

Johnny - For a track-oriented FD, I don't think it would even be possible to have coolant temps too low. Usually the problem is in the other direction.

Hey fluxen, can't you plug or tape over the Faspac vents to do the comparison? It seems to me that would be a good enough comparison for cooling purposes, unless there is something about the underside of the hoods that significantly affects cooling...

Good idea. There are some other variables that won't account for, but it's worth a shot....now I just have to wait for my car to come home....
