instead of which sub is better, try to find which shop is better. A good shop can make almost any sub sound great, while at the same time a bad shop can make the best sub sound like crap. As far as listening to a sub in a store goes, I garuntee you it will sound different in your car. Find a good installer and a sub that fits your budget and you will be happy.

Well thanx for the ideas and thoughts... Very helpful so that I don't get "blinded" by brands/stores...

Anyway--I've been able to scrounge up some extra $$ so I think I'm gonna go for some nicer equipment... I'm either going for Kove Armageddons or Audiobahns... I have friends who have those in their cars and they sound great

So until then... Thanx!

If you want SPL go with the Fosgate Punch or Power series. They are a good sub and hit hard. If you want sound quality go with JBL W12GTI or W10GTI. They are the best sounding subs on the market, period!

Try ebay or ubid.com for some refurbished amps. I've bought refurbished fosgates from both places and had no problems at all.

I voted for other becuase I am going with the Eclipse Alum 10" DVC I would go with the Eclipse Ti 10" DVC, but lack the watts and the cash.

I am currently looking for a Mc amp MC420M if anyone knows where I could pick one up for under retail.

Hey, i didn't bother reading hte whole thread, because it was kinda long, and i sure hope someone has said somehting to you already, but please do not buy a crunch amp. That amp is a piece ****, just like anything crunch makes. Your money would be much better spent on a quality amp. If you buy the crunch amp you'll regret it. Get yourself an amp with decent power for the money. (i.e. menhpis, RF, orion, MTX, and many many others) Just please don't get a crunch amp. As for your subs, it comes down to what you like better. I would never buy an Alpine sub, nor would i ever buy an alpine amp. the majority of there Research and Development goes into head units, not amps and speakers, whereas a company like RF (your other choice) is quite the opposit, spending much more money on subs and amps than on head units.

Upon reading about audiobahns... I don't think I'll be getting them--I'm sticking to the Kove products or RF products...

JL subs, w-6 (in 3's) or w-3(1,2,3)
MB Quart, q-series 6.5
Older PPI amps (PC series) Also Xtant amps
Clarion or alpine head units

That would be the best setup in my mind
No RF

You want some BASS??? I have yet to see a sub that hits as hard as the SOLO BARIC L7. For the cash you cant get much better, and you only need one.

don't go w/ any of them

if you want good sound and really clear hard bass... or if you just like to feel your music... trust me go w/ the KICKER DUAL VOICE COIL SQUAIR....... friend has a set of 10inchers... they sound amaaaaaaaaazing... they hit so hard it feels like someone is punching you in the chest....... and if you put them in a hatch back.... good lord.... they are bad ***.... trust me they are well worth the money... they retail for like 3bills a peice... but if you shop around you can get them on a deal... i can get them for about 190 a peice... getting ready to put just 1 in my 3rd gen... like bass in my music but 2 10's are a little to hard for my ears.... i had a set of fosgate 8's in my 2nd gen.. i liked them but when i heard the kicker squars... i hated them... so my new system is gonna be kicker squar... if you haven't heard them find somewhere to listen... trust me you'll make the same choice..

oh yeah

oh yeah... the good thing about the squares they have like the need for veryyyyyyyyyyyyyy low air volume... so no huge boxes in the precious trunk space.... they have the smallest amount of air volume on N E speaker on the market... expecially if you wanna go w a 10

2 alumapro 8" bandpass (seperate boxes)
planet audio amps

even though it's in my daily driver (not an RX7), they still hit pretty hard, even harder if i play around with them a bit, and this setup doesn't take up a whole lotta space.
in a 7 though, i'm sure one 8" or 10" bandpass would be plenty...

first of all fullsmoke you need to determine your total price range for amp and subs. If you are looking at a quality sub then why are you looking at a crappy *** amp. most car audio brands are their for one thing the uneducated first time buyer. they know that everyone wants it cheap so they give you cheap and make it look flashy so youll buy it. Now they have your money and they could care less about you now.
nuff said .
since you look like you have a buget of aprox $600.00 then you would be better to use one sub (120-250 range and spare tire well box) and a good quality amp( for 2 reasons reliability and the thing nobody ever thinks about. you car doesn't have alot of extra current.)
basically you need 200-500 watts.
option 1 -- type r 12 ---- m500 both alpine
option 2 -- type s 12 ---- m300 or m200 both alpine
as far as rockford well you won't find alot of dealers that won't admit they are a bunch of wh@#&s.
also find a specialist not just a saleman that can actually help you get something that is going to make you fell good about your purchase.
car audio is not just about the equipment it is about the knowledge of the creator.
oh well iam tired of preaching good luck fd are a bitch because there speaker placement sucks

i dont know if u could put it in an rx7 but if u could it would be very scary

oh and it has a 2.5 inch x-max and can hit an average db of 146 or more depending on what u feed it
sooooo.... if u could fit it i would do it but its a bit pricey

I just swapped out a JL for a Diamond Audio sub. Nothing serious mind you but the difference was quite amazing.

Do not get this subwoofer. First off, I am not a fan of SVC subs. The MASS subs frequently have problems with the rubber surround peeling. Also, the power handling isnt as great as they say. If you want, i can send you a movie of my friends kicking the **** out of a MASS 12" with a blown voice coil.

Sorry, I just dont think kicker is that great. The best i have ever seen a SOLO BARIC hit is 144.7 in a giant ported box. It was a premium system with all top of the line kicker equipment. The midbass cracked at high volumes on his components, and he managed to blow three L7's.

I had the pleasure of hearing another kicker system today. The guy always bragged to me in class about how his sounds. He finally showed me his, and i was not impressed. He had double the wattage (i have 500 rms), and he hit about 1/4 as hard.

Very true. Brahma handle more than W7's, but sound quality is a tiny bit lower.

When choosing a driver, pick one that handles about 100 rated RMS higher than you will be putting to it (or keep gains low). Make sure it can be wired to the most efficient load your amp can handle. Check enclosure size recommendations... most of you will use sealed in your Rx7's. Just ask, and i will make sure everything is set up right for your sub. Oh well, im tired- g' night guys.
