Please post opinions on Sub makes.

im planning on purchasing 1 10" sub for an application in my vert. I have been reading reviews etc. on the net but there is just too much offered.
Please post what you guys think are good 10" subs. Im not looking for top of the line competition stuff but I also dont want crap. Thanks
also, opinions on amps for the application of running one 10" sub with the possibility of running another 10 in the future would be great.

Kicker S10L7 subwoofer is perfect, especially for smaller cars. The sub isn't gigantic, but it hits very hard. Tight bass response, too; none of that muddy sounding stuff. Overall, an awesome sub. I highly recommend them.

Alpine TypeR (make jokes about the name all you want). They are great subs, sound awesome and are really good quality. I know a guy who had a single TypeR 12" and it could outdo my buddies system with 1 15" and 2 12".

There *are* so many choices and when I first saw this post I decided to leave it alone. Off the top of my head I can think of:

JL Audio
Image Dynamics
Resonant Engineering
Velodyne
Kicker
Elemental
MMATS
MB Quart
CDT Audio
Audiomobile
Infinity
Boston Acoustics
Kove
Adire

...and they all make decent gear and there are even more companies out there. You can have any of their subs in your car and like it, but better to ask, what do you want from your system, and how much do you want to spend? If you want something simple, just get either the Alpine Type R or Kicker sub mentioned above, and/or another good bang-for-the-buck sub I like is the Infinity Perfect.

Don't know what you mean by "crisp", but I'll assume you mean "tight" and for that, you'll want your sub in a sealed enclosure. I don't have any experience with Phoenix Gold subs but their Titanium series amps are the ****. Like subwoofers, there are a lot of amps, and most are decent gear and it would be splitting hairs to try and rank them all. Once you decide on a sub, find out its power requirements and buy accordingly (300W? 400W? 500W?, etc.). Good inexpensive amps IMO are U.S. Acoustics, Planet Audio. A level up, I'd go with Crossfire, Alpine, and JBL.

well.....

been searching the web and it seems local Kickers are all crazy expensive. After reading many great reviews I think i am leaning towards 2 10" L7's if i can find them for a good price.
So...just to reiterate I can run two 10" subs off of one mono sub amp? I plan to run my other speakers off of the head unit and was thinking the subs off the mono amp. And when selecting an amp I pretty much want to try to match max amp output with max sub rms?? is this correct?

saying that the L7's turn out to be too expensive
i am also thinking of

the infinity perfect 10's
alpine type r's
rockford fosgate h2x

2 10 l7s is going to be louder than you want, unless your trying to pimp ghetto fab.

I have 2 8in Kicker L7's in my rx7. it fits snug in the trunk will little to no modeifications. i have a jl audio 500/1 monoblock amp that runs the 2 8in. ITs pretty loud and seems like more mass then you need. I paid 400 for the 2 8in and sealed box.. thats my 2 cents..

since the l7s are square they have more air that they are pushing when compaired to a circle sub... so two 10 l7s are like two 12" circle subs...

Or maybe im just a product of good marketing, either way my friend has 1 12" l7 and its way too loud for either of our tastes

had a quick speed read so im not to sure if anyone has mentioned this, but, sub performance can have alot to do with its install, by that i mean, its location and the type of box its in.
a well designed box or enclosure can perform say 50% better then a larger or simliar sub with a pooly designed install.

setup

this is going in a vert under the rear spare hatch area.
i plan to build the box myself as it will be somewhat of a custom fitting but I will consult local audio electronic pro's in order to try to get the specs of the box as good as possible for the sub i choose.

please post more opinions, reviews etc. and keep in mind I do NOT want to break the bank on this.
how much are those alumapros going for?

Lemme ask on that. I've heard those before. Friend of mine had several. Damn they pounded. Lemme see what the going rate is on one. I'll try to price out all the 10" models.

I personally like Infinity or JBL....same company makes both of them I think (could be wrong about that though)

but any of them that Speedking metioned up there are pretty good.

Seriously, if you're on a budget, get an Infinity Kappa Perfect, JL Audio 10W3v2, or Alpine's Type R. This is as good as it gets in an inexpensive woofer.

I had a Phoenix Gold Titanium Series 10" which crapped out on me. It just suddenly stopped working one day. (It was an ebay deal.. so who knows??)

I replaced it with an Alpine Type R, and I'm actually happier with the Alpine. The Type R has a higher sensitivity rating, and I have noticed that I seem to get the same output at a lower gain level.

(and plus the people who write Phoenix Gold manuals are idiots... here's a quote from the manual why they recommend two layers of 3/4" MDF when building an enclosure: "due to the intense internal combustion chamber" combustion chamber??? Last I checked combustion happens when a spark plug ignites the fuel in my engine... I sure hope its not happening in my subwoofer box)

I agree 100%, but if you don't want to throw alot of power to your sub (which also costs $$), I'd try the orion p-series too, which is prolly the cheapest of the 4 also. but bang for your buck, the 3 above are definitely your best bet.
