Picture Request: New SSM Paint!

Sorry for the spam-like post, however I have my car waiting in line to get worked on, and while somewhat unrealistic -- I've been considering painting the engine bay for a future color change/repaint. Then I think long and hard about this, and come to the conclusion it is a stupid idea. But I need some motivation!

I've seen a lot of SSM FD's, searching for pictures and while I've seen a few select nice ones, I can't say I've been too pleased (no disrespect, some really nice SSM's out there). I don't know what it is about the SSM color, if it just doesn't photograph well, poor rim selection (ill suited silver on silver), or just old paint. I have a feeling most of the SSM's I've seen are holding onto original paint and hopefully that's the reason I've been so keen on changing colors and drooling over white FDs

I know it's a long shot, but has anyone repainted their SSM recently, or have good quality pictures of their SSM after a fresh, high quality repaint? If not, it looks like I may end up being the first -- relatively speaking of course.

Thanks!

You might want to trying PMing 93silverbullet. I think he had his repainted around the end of last summer?

Here his car is before the paint, he probably has higher res pics. His car does look pretty good.

The biggest difference I've seen in brand new SSM and older SSM paint is that the older SSM paint kinda has a yellowish or brown hue when the light strikes it right and a brand spanken new SSM paint has a white hue. I've always hated SSM paint until I saw a really clean example of one in person. Same with MB. If I were you though, I'd investigate some none OEM colors.

Hey Orbital thanks for the tip, I'll definitely shoot him a PM. I did snoop around and found some pictures after that posted thread, but not sure if they're with new paint or not.

Supernaut, did you ever end up painting your second car at that mystery shop? If so how did it go? I was really considering getting the car painted white, not sure I'd be brave enough to go some completely original color unless it's been done before, too much risk for me

Looking at the big picture, I'm just not sure it makes sense to get the car painted a different color. I don't know if you remember, but I pmed you about how much you paid for you paint job and it certainly wasn't cheap. Add to that new trim exterior pieces, 99 spec front, and painting the engine bay. My car is bone stock except for the exhaust that also needs to be replaced, so there is still a ton of work needed there. Thinking for the short and long term, it might just be best to get it running great, looking great with the oem silver, and just having a nice, beautiful, fun and reliable car in the near future as opposed to spending my life's earning for the next 4 or however many years

On a positive note, I did find this incredible SSM with what looks like new paint:

High res version: http://www.s2ki.com/s2000/uploads/ga...1090785339.jpg

My other inspiration will have to be this SSM:

Strangely enough, I found an old thread on Garfinkle's SSM here on the club forums and everyone was hating on it, mostly for the rims. I think it's an absolutely beautiful car though (I do like the rims too but I probably should keep that to myself)!

Garfinkle's car has a LOT of polished parts on it. Not to everyone's taste but the man is one hell of a machinist and parts innovator on our cars.

Certainly an innovator with some really new ideas. I just noticed his painted reverse signals, pretty interesting idea. Makes me wonder what's happened to his car since 2007, doesn't post much about his car

I was thinking what Supernaught said regarding the hue of the silver, yellowish on old cars and white on fresher SSM. I wish there was a paint expert on the forums, but is that due to the clearcoat yellowing or the base coat, or both?

Of course now I have a whole slew of new ideas, perhaps I could add some (just a little) blue-green flake or other type of flake to give it a cooler color temperature and a little extra effect. I'm also wondering, if a matte clearcoat, or flattening agent was used, maybe I could pull off a matte SSM? That would be pretty sick!

Found a thread in the FS section with a freshly painted SSM:

Also, probably not new paint, but who knows. Looks like new paint to me

Hey man,

Sorry I didn't get back to you. I didn't yet. I should hopefully be getting my 2nd FD back within this month so it can go to the bodyshop. I'm trying to get the car ready for deals but I'm highly doubtful of it. Nothing is coming together right now .
