Paint job HORROR
Took my 93 rx7 to my bosses brother inlaws body shop to get the car repainted. I was prommissed it would look like factory, that I would be able to see my reflection in it. Well let me tell you I dont have fish eyes on my face . and to top it off that idiot tried to tell me that it was my cars fault that it had rock chips in it thats why those are there. WTF then why did my new in the box stock wing that he painted to had them? Now what should I do I gave him 1 week to fix it, should I pay him or not if it still looks like ****? I will post pics when I get a chance.

i would tell him you arent satisfied w/ the job (cite the wing as an example of why his theory is innacurate) then ask him to fix it at his expense. If he says no, tell him that you arent paying for his work.
If he threatens to keep the car, you can do what a guy did at my friends shop. He brought up the spare key and just took the car back..... then my friend chased him w/ a tow truck and punished his car in his driveway (b/c he had the address). Just make sure you keep it in a garage!
Also, start looking for a new job if it comes to that, as you may get fired. Note to you - dont ever bring anything to a bosses anything. Thats like nailing his daughter. Just a no-no.

I think he's seeing if you'll come back and say "fix it now" or walk away quietly. Possibly call his bluff, tell him you're not paying XX.XX for that paint job and tell him you're coming to get the car and see what happens. He might fix it(which would be best), or he might say fine just cover materials. Unless he says fine you're not getting the car back. Then you're best bet is honestly to pay him(hopefully it wasn't much) and try to recoop the money in small claims court. If you refuse to pay, it'll make it that much harder for you to negotiate get the car back if in fact he doesn't place some kind of a mechanic's lein on the car.
Just from my experiance, I had some work done by a crappy shop(good ole' EIP Tuning in Westminster, MD) and they blew the transmission in my car. When I went to pick it up I was going to pay with a stipulation that I could write "Transmission worked fine when car was brought in for service" on the receipt but the shop said that was a no go. Called the state police who came down and said my choices were to pay and take the car, or not pay and leave the car in their posession.

This is what I would do.
Just explain to your boss that the work is not satisfactory and that by no means is he responsable. The only reason that you are bringing this to his attention is because you know he will hear about it later. And to please understand that you will not pay for shotty work, but that is between you and the body shop.

Bring it up to the boss and make it sound like you are concerned for your bosses car and dont want to see anything happen to his car like what is happening to your car. I had the same problem with a very well known rotary shop not to be named in texas but they like the american flag so yall can guess who it is by that i hope. I paid for work that a week later went to crap and now Im trying to get my money back but I know I will never see it and go to small claims court isnt worth it at all imo. But it depends on how much you are spending on this paint job if its a few grand and he wont fix it take him to small claims court but you better have documentation of everything like receipts for your spoiler and such so you can show the judge the crap job he did. Good luck and sorry to hear it.

Fish eyes are caused by spraying over a dirty or oily surface and generally you see inexperienced painters get that when they dont cleanthe surface well. What really surprises me is that the owner would try to make excuses for poor workmanship. Ultimately I would asK for a full refund and get your car out of there ASAP.

if the paint job still sucks and you don't want to just drive it away, then you can always just write a check. then go strait to the bank and put a stop payment on it. hehe. won't he be surprised when then money doesn't come in.

Fish eyes can also be caused by poor filteration of the air supply line. The air supply from a large tank can contain oil and moisture and must be throughly filtered. An additive can be added to the paint to make it fish eye "resistant". This is an amateur mistake as stated above.

Is this guy a lot cheaper than your local body shop? This could be a case of getting what you pay for, nobody has Earl Scheib paint their classic Porsche. I wouldn't stop payment on the check unless your prepared to be indicted for check fraud.

Should of had me do it. i live in Chicago and a full R&R paintjob is $2k plus materials, no fish eyes, no orange peal, i actually fill chips, and mirrors get jealous of the finish. When i go to my other house il send a link to my car as i was painting it step by step....
*EDIT* R&R = Removal and replacement, doors, hood, fenders, bumpers, wing, hatch, gas door, ETC, all comes off.... The Right way of doing it, nothing less.

I don't want to be a downer, but I work at a body shop and alot of newer car parts we have be getting has fish eyes in it. I 'm not saying that they didn't screw up your paint job, but you always get what you pay for.
