Opinions on Sony's CDX-CA900X?

Hey guys,

My '82 needs a CD player. I've been kinda loyal to Sony products over the years, and I really like the looks of the CA900X. The DSO looks like it'd really be good to remedy to poor location of the factory front speakers in the first gen. Anyone have any comments, snide remarks, or recommendations for other headunits? Thanks,

--Danny

My PROFESSIONAL opinion of sony is their lower end stuff is JUNK! Man I have a lot of CD player problems with them and have to pull them for warranty all the time... professional stereo installer for 12 years, trust me go with a Pioneer or an Alpine..

Yeah sony tends to mess up alot unless you get the top notch stuff. But even then there not that great. I have had bad luck with sony so I stick to kenwood and alpine. Just my 2 cents.

Yeah and with the cony's its always the same thing. they make a grimding noise when taking a cd in. And then they produce some whacky error...

But this years amps arent too bad, they provide a little bang for the buck... The speakers are decent at best...

But stay with a Pioneer, Alpine, or even a kenwood although I dont like them, but they are reliable)

Had my Sony X-plode deck for less than a year before it started giving me all kinds of disc errors, skips and it refuses to play some discs.. Nelly's new disc would not play brand new out of the wrapper but it plays in all my other CD players...

I had a CHEAP Pioneer and it was sold for about 5 years before it started going out..

Any reason you don't like the Kenwoods? I've got a KDC-V6017, and it's pretty nice. Simple, and works.

Oh, and what's your opinion on Infinity Speakers?

Back to Sony's: My friends got a Sony set up (came with his car), and his CD head is all whacky, and the speakers sound a little lack luster on the low end to me..

sony suck *** but so does alot of brands.

the reliability rates on decks these days is terrrible.

we sell sony,kenwood,pioneer,clarion,alpine,jvc

in the last few years most of them keep getting worse and worse.

alpine has always built for quality not cosmetics.

defective rates are not facts but here they are

sony 60%
pioneer 60%
jvc 80%
clarion 50%
kenwood 25%
alpine 1%

and all those are across the board the sonys have the same parts from $130 to $1500 they all break.

the worst thing i can hear in the day is " my cd player does't work"

so

buy an alpine and you will never go back to any other brand.

fd use the cda-7894 for perfect factory color match.

oh yea last thing most salespeople are full of sh#$

The Kenwoods with the motorized faceplates do not last very long at all. I had the MP919 in my car and after 2 months it would not open up. Got it replaced with another and the same **** happened again.

Roger,
thanks for the info. The CDA-7894 does look like a good unit, and does have amber lighting. I had passed it over because the styling is a bit "square" but it does meet all my requirements (rotary ****, black, amber illum, MP3 CD-RW).

Crutchfield says the unit doesn't fit the FD though - any idea why?

If the depth of the reciever is too much, it won't fit.

That makes sense. But it looked like someone might have had experience installing it (Roger Collins??) - Just curious.
