I have heard this is such an awful, pain staking job and if you mess up one of those rear defrost lines, the whole thing is toast. Then, after the film is up there is a messy glue residue to deal with.

I would pony up and pay a pro and I'm as tight as bark on a tree.

Actually, my brother just bought glass from another FC.

I think they are, and window tint is too. So while pulling the tint off, you can pull the defrost lines off too.

I honestly thought it wouldn't be that bad, figured something like alcohol or ammonia and slowly pulling it off would do the trick.

My current daily had dark tint that needed removed when I bought it. Searches turned up using a clothes steamer. It worked well for the four small windows. I never had the confidence that the rear could be done without damage, even with the lower temps of the steam compared to a heat gun. I did use window cleaner and a razor blade too, on the front windows. I wouldn't get anywhere near the rear window with a blade though. Someone with more skill than me could probably use a razor blade and a heat gun easily.

I'm thinking if you can get it started with the blade and just keep pulling it back, it might be ok. But I bet the older this stuff gets, the harder that becomes. Steamer kinda makes sense to me. The warm moisture might help separate the materials.

I used Goop to remove the old adhesive from window film. Worked very well. I have not tried to remove film from the rear window with a defrost though.

I’ve used the clothing steamer and it worked great and kept the defrost lines intact. You really only run the risk of damaging them with a razor blade. With the steamer you start on one side and get under the film, then use a credit card or something similar to scrape the tint off. You lead with the steamer and let it do all the work.

that old *** tint will be so brittle and tear and shred like an old paper sticker, don’t waste your time trying to scrape it off without a steamer.
