window tint removal
I know I'm probably posting in the wrong area. Don't shoot me. Any tricks with removing 10 year old window tint yourself. Thanks

i removed some tint from my isuzu rodeo, and i borrowed some kinda of weird glue remover stuff that worked great. I forget what it was called, but i just used that and a standard razor and it came off really easy. Good luck

paint stripper, the real deal
razor blades will work on side glass but if your doing the rear window
don't even try the blade or you'll have no defrost - put the paint stripper on
(with the winodow out) let it sit for 5-10 min then use a plastic putty spreader scrape away the remains

peel tint off any way you can, being 10 years old you can usually grab a corner and run away with it, try a heat gun as well.
then use some amonia based window cleaner like Windex, spray the window really good, take some 00 steel wool soaked in soapy water to remove the glue.
protect adjoining areas
side windows you can just use the razor blade and window cleaner- the window cleaner makes for a nice lubricant

I peeled mine off by spraying ammonia concentrate on the window tint, I then wallpapered a trashbag over the tint to keep the ammonia solution from evaporating, and then shined a 500 watt halogen light from the other side of the glass for a couple of hours to get it nice and warm. The tint peeled off pretty easily after that and this method worked well on the rear hatch glass without damaging the rear defroster. You'll find ammonia concentrate on the cleaning aisle on any grocery store and you need to do this in a well ventilated area unless you like burning your nose hairs out.
After peeling off the tint the excess glue came off with a rag soaked in ammonia.

Ive been in the tint business for 10 years and i can tell you no matter what you do it sucks what we do is just use soap and water and a razor blade for the sides but on the back glass go and buy you a 35.00 heat gun and start heating the film up on the outside glass depending how bad it is you may have to really heat it up.
Once you do get the film off buy some purple power or industrial strength glass cleaner that is in a pressurized can and spray the window down and grab some steel wool and start wearing your arm out. If the film is really failed sometimes you have no choice but to scrap it with a blade and say goodbye to your defroster.
Hope that helps. If anyone has a better way i would love to hear it as well and maybe it would make my day to day job easier.

Well, this thread is timely. Since my car is garaged at the moment, I figured I'd remove the crappy tint (don't know how long its been there) and have it re-tinted in spring.
