NRG Quick Release
has anyone used or owned a NRG Steering Wheel Release Kit?
NRG Innovations
with my new Evo seat, im afraid room to get in and out of my car is going to be even tighter. my solution is a new steering wheel set up. so im looking into a after market wheel, hub adaptor, and quick release kit and i tripped over a good deal on the NRG 2nd Gen Kit, but im not sure how good they are.
any input is, as always, greatly appreciated.

Out of the copies that are floating around I think the NRG releases are the best. I had a cheap Ebay ball bearing type and I had it for about year, but within the first month of owning it, it developed alot of play. It got so bad I couldn't deal with it anymore so I bought a NRG Slim. It looks like the FET quick release and I don't see this thing having any major play anytime soon.
Since the NRG Slim is well slim I had to get a spacer to push the steering wheel out so that I felt more comfortable.
I have compared the NRG ball bearing type to a my old ball bearing release and the NRG felt much tighter
You can see pics of my NRG Slim with the SRR 30mm steering wheel spacer here. Oh and my horn does work, where the ebay no name brand copy didn't.

I can't say how its done with the Sparco releases, but with the NRG slim its fairly easy. I had to run wires from the steering wheel hub to the back of the release. Then attach wires from the other half of the release to your steering wheel.
Its hard to explain. You can see the 2 small brass contacts that are for the horn in the pics.

Because I didn't want the ball bearing type. The NRG slim doesn't use ball bearings to release and lock. Think of the FET quick release.
NRG has like 4 versions of quick releases. 3 are ball bearing and one (slim) isn't.
I didn't need the spacer but I got it because it was more comfortable and it gave me more leg room so that I can shift. Even using the release as a spacer my leg would hit the steering wheel making it very annoying to shift. I'm actually thinking about using the 50mm spacer to see if I like that.

I don't think there is anything wrong with the NRG ball bearing type, but from my experience with the other ebay ball bearing type I wanted to try something else.
The ebay one started to get alot of play over time. I have a picture somewhere of where the bearings started to where there seats and instead of being perfectly round. They started to have a more oval shape to them. When I find it I'll post the pic.

I installed a NRG Quick Release adapter not too long ago. Above are the shots. Ignore the dust. Since the car hasn't been driven in a few years, I haven't had the urgency to clean it all up yet.
hey with teh NRG units, does the horn still work?? all ive seen in the pics is wires passing through em and thats it..
their gen 2 kit looks pretty decent.. but i can see where the slims might have an advantage as far as its probably not as commonly expected.. meaning average car thief could plan ahead with a typical ball bearing wheel??
