New stereo, no volume, need help

There was something hooked up in the wiring harness, and it says Peripheral Interface Components, and it runs in the midst of the speaker wiring. It was hooked up on the old stereo (Pioneer Premier, not stock) but we wired the new Alpine up without it and now we're not getting sound. Does anyone know what this thing is or what exactly it does, besides the smartass answer of "provides sound"? Does anyone else have one of these?

OK I have a new problem now. There is sound with the tuner but if you put in a CD, it spins and you can switch tracks and everything, there just isn't any sound for the CD. The stereo I'm replacing worked when I first got the car but I got a CD stuck in it and in trying to get it out, it stopped playing CDs and it hasn't played CDs since, but if I remember correctly it wouldn't even read the CD, I'm not entirely sure though. Has anyone else had a problem like this? No sound for the CD but sound for the radio?

I presume the Alpine is playing the CD? If so, that is where your problem is, not the wiring. You will need to consult the Alpine manual. Probably just turn off "mute" or turn the volume up for the CD.

Yes it is playing the CD, and I'm not sure if there is a mute on it (I haven't found one) but, uh, yeah...I DID turn up the volume, but somehow no sound came out. Hmmmm, maybe I'm NOT so stupid.
