New head unit in FD help

Im installing a new head unit in my FD. I believe the previous owner had also already swapped to another unit. I searched and found threads on how to use the stock Bose amps with adapters. I wont be using the bose amp. The one thing I'm a little confused on is I read not to hook up the head unit to constant power? The only wires I am using are the ignition, constant, ground, power antenna, and remote wires. I'm going to use an aftermarket amp to power the new speakers. Am I making this more difficult than it is? I have a power antenna wire on my new head unit so everything should be one for one as far as I can see. Does all this sound correct?
