need some audio direction !

The FD's sound is hurting really bad right now... I can't even hear the radio or cd's when im driving or the speakers get distorted when i turn up the volume. It's not a bose system.

I have the stock speaker setup, and the panasonic ghost face touch screen head unit...

I can do all the installation stuff myself but i dont really know what to get.

I dont want a sub, but i do want nice crisp sound with an even amount of base and treble.

what should i go buy to get it sounding good ?
1. front speakers ?
2. rear speakers ?
3. small amp ?
4. wires, crossovers ?

appreciate the help.

Scott

grr these threads come up 5 times a week and no one ever posts a budget. I could reccoment an audio system that would cost well over 10k for speakers and an amp. If you are a true audiophile, than you will want a 2 or 3 way component set of speakers. I would go FOCAL Utopia, Rainbow, DLS, Morel, boston. Best way is to go to your local car audio store and listen, but give me a budget than I can shoot some brands at ya.

i recomend 5.25 speakers in the front

and 6.5 COMPONENT speakers in the rear.

stay away from that 5'7 garbage. the 6.5 will fit with some easy fab work using the existing brackets.

you do not need any speakers in the rear, a nice small sub will give it enough fill in the rear. I run 5.25 in the front and like them alot. try focal, dls, morel, rainbow, boston, for front components, and for amps I like tru, arc, audio art, etc.

Need help also.

SpiritRex7, can I jump in on your thread also? Mine is a 93 touring with Bose sytem, and I asked for help with it, but nobody stepped forward. I too would like someone more the wiser to help me out in deciding what I should get.

My budget would be about $2000.00 for the sytem alone.

I was thinking MB Quart components for the front and maybe 2 JL 10w7 in the rear, but not sure on amp or crossover stuff.

Oh, I already ordered the Eclipse CD8445 as my head unit.

Thanks for letting me jump in, and thanks to those of you who lend me a hand.

2000 will give you a very nice setup. You DO NOT need 2 10" subs in the rear, 1 12" will be fine. I really do not like going mainstream on my audio stuff, because I like having something that no one else has (hence my fd). For speakers, mb quart tweets are kind of harsh, especialy their q line which retail at around 800. Im not sure the mb quarts will fit in the doors either. You can not go anything bigger with a depth of 2.5 inches. I would reccomend diamond hex (1.9" mounting depth), dls, morel, rainbow, boston. When you buy a component speaker system the crossover comes with them and its pretty straight foward to wire them. Amp wise depends on what speakers you get, and how many watts you want to throw at them. Same thing goes for the sub, you have to to find what rms it takes and than decided a sub. For subs you need to decided if you want sound quailty or all out bass, for sq I would reccomend a focal sub, for bass I would reccomend stroker 12, orion h2, XXX, brahma, avalanche etc....

Okay sorry, I am looking for sound quality. So a 12 instead of two 10's? Sounds good to me, I was just thinking two subs for asthetics. So you would say diamond hex components for up front, one 12" Focal sub? What about the amp? One more question, do you happen to have a dealer or know of anyone who deals in these brands?

Demanding aren't I?

^ lol, nah, trust me I understand where your coming from. For the diamond components I would buy them new off of ebay, and for the focal sub I would go to speedsound.com. I bought my rainbow pro comps from them. Looking at focal subs, their nicest 12" does around 400rms, this is no entry level garbage either, focal is top of the top and really for sq it can not be beat. So do not be suprised when you see $500 for an 11" sub, but you get what you pay for. For amps, 400 rms I would look at us amps, zapco, tru, arc, and for old school amps I would look at ppi art series, audio art. These are all audiophile grade stuff, if you go this route, your system will not just be ok, it will be far superior in quality than anyone in your town. My next door neighbor, runs a porsche dealership, he told me that many of the cars he sees, the owners rip out the premium porsche sound sytem and throw focal and diamond audio in their car. I personally run two 12" diamond m6 mk2 in the fd and their is no need at all for 2 subs, one would of been enough. I could not afford the focal subs unfortently . Check speedsound for their speaker comps, diamond is good, rainbow morel, dls, sadly focal will not fit as the depth is to big.

i think 12" is ghetto-ish..... lol

i would stay away from diamond audio. about 4 years ago they had a serious recall with their top end 800$ component speaker sets cracking in half. im sure its been resolved now, but still, i dont think their products are worth the price.

I have had my m6 mk2 for over a year, they are rated at 600rms I throw 750 rms at them and have yet to have a problem with my diamond subs. I know they had cone problems with their tdx subs but that was fixed.

Im running a Pc4100 (ppi power class) Amp And the Mbquart 3 way components. I did replace the tweeters for some old old school Cliff design silk tweeters. The amp runs the two doors and a single 12 Kicker L7. I put all this together for about $1200, and am loving it.

$1K... since that's all you want to spend than one suggestion is to:

- buy a Pioneer head unit that has auto EQ and path-length distancing... $400.
- B-quiet sound dampening media for about $100 to quiet out rattles and the like
- 2 piece component set for $300 which will buy you a decent set of speakers for any brand that you listen to at a decent audio store
- a 10" sub, say a JL Audio 10W4 or whatever is equivalent now, a Kicker solobaric 8" will also work quite nicely and takes up little space with a sealed box.
- That's $1K already...to stay on the cheap side buy a California, Pyramid amp and get two of them. Both 2 channels and get a 100x2 and a 150 or more x 2 and run the speakers in 2 channel stereo and the sub in 4 ohm mono load for your best power/least distortion.

For wiring, suggest using 14 ga. for all speaker wiring and 12 ga. multistrand for your sub. Run single or low stand (large OD though) copper wiring for the power feed and buy a fuse block and circuit breaker for your battery. Fuses work but breakers are so much easier as all you have to do is push a button and it opens...much safer without having to break a live contact with your fingers, especially when most of the time it happens at night in the dark when you need to.

Why? Multistrand is great for watts, not good for amps. Single or low strand is better for amps and power feeding. Yes...it's different.

Yes...I realize what I'm saying but his budget is $1K. Head units run for that alone so I'm just trying to keep him in budget best I can.
