Need help installing Chaser Aero RE-A GT300 hood

Just got the chaser aero re amemiya n1 replica hood. Bolted it up and now it won't shut down properly. It clicks only once and isn't deep enough to get the second click. I can't id the problem as it doesn't scuff anything nor is the latch hitting against the hood. Would like anyone that has this hood to chime in. Thanks

How about just getting some hood pins? You can get locking ones I believe http://www.aerocatch.com/

yeah you definitely shouldn't trust the latch bracket on an aftermarket hood anyway.

i have the locking aerocatch pins and i love them. that hood isn't going anywhere...

+1 on the hood pins. You should have em on an aftermarket hood. Have you tried contacting the company you purchased it from? They may be able to help. I have looked at picking up that same hood from that same company. Would you mind snapping some shots once you get it installed all the way. I would like to see the fitment? It would be very much appreciated.

Well until the hood is fully closed I cannot comment on the fitment yet. I've had aftermarket hoods in the past and at least the hood locked completely. When I close my hood now its still hovering a good 3 inch and not engaging the 2nd lock. I would get hood pins but I would still want my main latch to work.

Is the latch itself long enough? If your not sure put some washers in the mount bolts to lift the backk of the hood up to see if you can close it like that. I would not leave it like that just to test the latch.

You can all so measure your old latch and your new latch and compare.

+1 on the aerocatch. I put them on mine even though my aftermarket hood fit fine. you can never be too careful w/ the material other than full aluminum.

really odd though that it won't even close all the way. did you try taking off the flare cover to see if it will fit any better?

Took the tray off already. I am going to unbolt the hood and close the hood on the latch to see if will even lock completely.

I have narrow down the problem to the hing on the hood not being long enough. Does anyone know if it is possible to raise the latch on the car?

You can loosen the bolt that holds the latch, the bracket that holds the latch has a slotted hole, so you can adjust it slightly. No more than an inch, but probably even less than that.

Alright I am having massive problems with this hood. I would advise people to stay away for now. I am contacting the seller to see if I received a faulty hood. I have plenty of pictures but would like the seller to resolve this situation before I post a full review.

If you are trying to PM Chaser Aero on the forum you may want to try calling them, from what i was told by Russ @ Chaser Aero they discontinued their vendor advertising on the forum and thus have been banned

Ok folks I went up to Chaser Auto today and purchased a GT300 carbon kevlar hood for my FD. In the back of my mind I knew it wouldnt be perfect but went ahead and got it to see if they would be a good local place for parts in the future for me and others. Got it home and got to work fitting it. Fit was horrible at first. Had to trim the hood support to clear my strut bar. Had to trim around hood latch to get it to seat fully. Also had to modify the factory hinge and currently only running one bolt on each hinge. The drivers side of the hood fit nice after all that, but the passenger side was not as clean. One of the corners near the passenger headlight cover was cut to much. Over all for $550 i like it. Check out the picture for yourself. Now gotta order hood pins cause i dont trust the latch at all.

Also if you are thinking about paying them a visit to just check out the parts and not buy dont waste your time. They will only pull the parts from the warehouse if you got the money. You could say you want it and have them pull it and just walk out if you dont like it but they will get quite pissed im sure.

There is isn't anything for me to cut but its not hitting anything which is the most annoying part. The damn thing just engage the 2nd click for the latch.

Hope this helps. If you dont understand my drawing let me know, I didnt want to take it all apart and have to realign the hood tonight.

Lots of cutting here to make sure it clear the latch. I had problems with the first click latch clearing.

Cut hood support to clear strut bar.

Extanded rear (closest to windsheild) hinge hole on both hinges to allow for lots of adjustment. Didnt bolt through top one cause the holes didnt line up.

My **** drawing. Hope it helps. It the hinge top view. From the factory one hole is oval and the other is circle. So you have to extend the circle one.

Once i did the trimming around the latch pin on the hood and adjusted the hood forward to get rid of gap between the hood and front bumper, i didnt have any problems with that. Id say keep trimming around the latch pin on the hood.

oh and i messed with getting the second click with the hood not bolted to the hinges. Try getting that straight and then working on the hinges second.
