Need decent Audio setup.
I don't know jack when it comes to car audio. I just have a Pioneer headunit and speakers. I want to spend less than $500 on a sub and amp. Someone told me a correct setup is a 4 channel amp to power the sub w/ a crossover, and front speakers. The rear speakers are suppose to be powered by my headunit supposedly. Anyone know deccent components for this? Thanks.

What Pioneer head do you have? That's important in deciding what to tell you to do. Also, what speakers?
That dude selling the sub box kit is a good deal. One 4 channel amp with 2 channels bridged for the sub will work. Or a 2 separate amps is better typically.
Post details about the parts you have now and I'll tell you what to do with $500.

Ugh, that's a pretty low end head-unit. Not much better than stock, if any. It only has one set of pre-out which will greatly limit your flexibility. I would highly suggest selling what you have on the forum at sounddomain.com and get a better head first. That is the most important thing in any car stereo system.

You I think it greatly depends how nuts you want to go with the system.
Pluggin in a 4 channel crossover and amp will require more wiring. simply because, we really dont have the space under the dash to install both. Getting the crossover basically will allow you to tune what freaquency will go to what speaker. You can setup the front and rear speakers to act as tweeters, and then just use the sub for the lows. Or just adjust the crossover to allow lows and mids to get to the 4 speakers and just leave the lows again for the sub box.
If you really dont want to go nuts with it, I'd just get a decent head unit with highwattage to run the 4 speakers, and get an amp with an internal crossover for the rear sub. This will simplify wiring by a great deal, and with a good headunit and speakers, will still sound rather decent.

The 3100 is better. To start with I would get a decent component set for the front. A basic 2 way set from Polk or Infinity would be good. Mount the tweets flush high on the door - you'll have to cut a hole for them, but lots of people have dont it that way and it looks/sounds good.
Next get an amp. I would buy a 4 channel amp that can run in 3 channel mode. Something about 50x4.
Then get that 10" sub kit from DamonB and a sub. JL Audio is great and can be found easily. Although I'm not a huge JL fan.
If you want specifics ask, but you could do all that for $500 and have a nice sounding system.
