Momo PitStop EBrake Handle Install on FD

I did this a while ago and another member asked me about fitment. Here is what I did short and simple. Some pics and commentary for you.

First I cut off the stock leather. Then took a dremel and shaved the rubber down all around. You don't want to cut it off cause the handle will have too much play. So shave a bit and test fit it as you go.

Then I took a metal shaving bit for the dremel and ground down this little bottom section to allow the Momo piece to sit lower on the handle since it is longer than the stock piece.

Next I took the actual handle and cutout 1/2in. piece on the bottom. Again to make it sit lower.

It probably took me about 1hr since I wasn't sure of what I should do to get it to fit. I topped it off with a Miata button. The part number is in one of DaleClark's posts. It was like $6. Good luck I get a lot of compliments on the handle.

I just got a new boot and is 1.5 inches at the top. The stock one fit fine so if you give the person your stock boot they can just use it as the template.

Really....its seems like that momos connector at the bottom would be bigger it diameter. Thanks for info.

So, is this the Miata part number or the universal part number? I'm looking into the carbon fiber one, so do you need to order the handle, leather boot and the adapter??

Thanks!

Also, any other pics of the install would be appreciated!

boot connection to handle...?

This may be a stupid question but as I'm fabricating my own e brake handle I'm a little stumped as how the e brake boot connects to the actual handle (without slipping loose). As I recall on the stock it's tied by a wire however I was going to cut a thread at the end of the handle and have a lockingg nut at the end pinching the boot in between. Just don't know if it will hold. Do you have a pic or explanation for how momo does it?

Redlinegoods.com has a how to on installing the boots on their site. http://www.redlinegoods.com/FDinstall.shtm. If you use a zip tie make sure the square of it is at the front (or bottom, whatever you want to call it) part of the handle, otherwise you will be able to see it sticking out from under the boot.

I only ordered the handle at first. You can use it with the stock boot. I used a zip tie like the Redline instructions. Never had a problem with it; it fits nice and tight. I got new boots later on made by one of the forum members. Sorry I don't have other pics and I am leaving the country until June so I won't get a chance to post any. I used the Miata Chrome button on mine. Here is the quote from Dale's post (ClubRX is down so you won't be able to see the writeup):

Chrome part number is NC35-44-033, and Ray at Malloy (888-533-3400) has 'em for $9.69 each. The silver one is $3 if you really wanna get cheap . Writeup with pics -

The button just unscrews IIRC.

The end of the handle has small holes so if you want you can use a wire to secure the boot instead and thread it in through the leather. I was fine with the zip tie and in two years it never came loose but I also don't drive the car often. It would only take a few more minutes to use a wire and twist the ends tight. I don't think a locking nut will keep the boot tight all the way around.
