Until I bought an 84 Rx7 two weeks ago, I had forgotten how tall the shifters are. I did some research on "short-shifters" but didn't see much for gen 1 cars. There was talk of modifying the Miata shifter but not much info. Would it be both possible and advisable to cut the shifter in the 84 down, say several inches, rethread the stem, and re-attach the sifter or ****? Anything is possible but is this a bad idea?
