Engine color choices
Engine color choices
I just bought an 84 GSL-SE. It is beige (cream colored etc) with a gold interior. I was thinking of sprucing up the engine compartment by painting the iron parts of the engine and polishing the aluminum parts. Any opinions on what colors might go with the cream? I am considering a new Mallory coil in red and who knows as far as the plug wires go. Customizing has always been fun for me. Thanks everyone.
I have the same color, but mine is a gs, I also polished my housings to look like chrome. I painted my irons red, the engine looks great, but it don't look good with a cream engine compartment in my opinion

You were the one to talk to because I too was thinking of going with red. How did you polish the aluminum parts? I have not done this before. Yes, I owned a bunch of Rx7s back in the day, but I never modified anything. GS or GSL or GSL-SE, I love them all and would take a GS any day of the week. Any suggestions then other than red? Did you do this with the motor out of the car? I don't plan on taking mine out. I did this on a 66 Plymouth 440 (engine in car) but it didn't have all those wires, tubes, and gadgets.

That might be the best combo. I thought of red because I was going to go with red Mallory ignition coils and wires only, Mallory doesn't make coils for this car. I can only get them in black anyway so that makes more sense. I am going to try and find your build thread. I love pouring over them.
Dillrx7, my bad eyes and my apologies. Got your name wrong. Yes, that is a beautiful color combo. I love that purple. I had an 86 Sport (should have kept it) and I am jealous. That is really a nice car.

Yes u did mine out of the car when I rebuilt the engine, I sanded them starting with 120 grit all the way up to 2000 grit, then I polished them with a buffing wheel. If you pm me, I'll send you some pictures of how they came out.I can't figure out how to upload pictures on here with my phone
