MB QUART QSD-216 6.5" COMPONENT SET

Has anyone fitted these in a third gen (non-bose) and any feed back on sound quality. Yes I know I should just go and listen to them but I can't find them locally and I have seen them on the net for what i consider to be a bargain price. Any feed back would be great.
Thanks Chaps

Oh, I'd be running them on a 90 W RMS kicker amp, with a boston acoustics 10 inch sub, "competitor". And will have them profesionally installed.

Don't worry, a custom baffel can be made to fit speakers if the mounting depth is too much.

well, I read they are 2.5" deep, and that a 2.5" speaker should fit.......so I'm hoping that is the case.

The shop that I used to work at sold them, and I thoroughly enjoyed them. MB Quart makes speakers that are smooth and musical to most people's ears, but you got it right that you should listen to them first, since sound perception is pretty relative. When you hear them at the shop, figure that the midbass will be mounted low and the passenger side will sometimes be behind your passenger's legs, so midrange sounds will get soaked up a bit.

Construction-Quality-wise, they are really fantastic speakers. I think you would enjoy them.

I agree that construction and quality of the qsd are great. Although the tweeters are just to harsh and reminded me of the focal tn-51 tweets. Unless you are picking them up used I cant justify buying them new at their retail price or anywhere near it. Right now my monitor 1 components are 2.7" magnet and the baffel is almost done for em. and its a pretty tight fit. If i were you, look into dynaudio, morel, cdt, rainbow etc, all great sounding speakers and arent harsh.

THe price i have seen them for is 430US new (seems good to me), and I read that if the tweeter is set at -6 then the tweeter isn't so harsh. Thanks for the advice guys, I'll have to think about it.

I have the 5 1/4's and 1's in my FD and they absolutely scream. Very hard to distort after having variable x-overs on them. They have been and will remain my favorite speakers made. They ran IASCA for like 25 years last time I checked.

at all of the iasca events i have been to, i have never seen mb quart speakers place in any of the top 3 cars in any of the category's. Not that im hating on them at all, just think you can find better for $430.

I've been to some IASCA events where they were in top three, but that's neither here nor there. purerx7 mentioned rainbow speakers, which i also give thumbs up to. The others I haven't heard yet. Once again I just want to say, please listen to the speaks before you buy. There is a reason that so many speakers that sound so different each sell as much as they do within their respective price brackets...it's that it's all up to the perception of the listener.

Guys with the 3 15" subs in the back of their Escalades often -want- thin, bright tweets because that's what their boys run, so they are used to it, and because it cuts through all the mud their subs produce...they would likely be dissatisfied with a smooth reference speaker. The quarts are nothing like that at all, mind you. On the other end of the spectrum, an old lady came into our shop and asked me to disconnect her stock tweeters mounted behind the side mirrors because she thought they were too loud. And there are the people that fade their speakers almost all the way back because they like the sound of the 6x9s...the sound from the back drives me nuts, personally.

Blah blah blah i talk too much. basically just try before you buy.
