I was wondering whats the max wattage that a rx7 Fc 88 gxl can handle i am looking to buy a decent system from cruchfield alpine and was wondering what i should do if you have any ideas i would like to put in deck speakers with seperate tweeters with crossovers then save up for a sub and amp if i could do that with out buying a amp for the speakers just for temporary. i dont want to run down the battery or ruin the altornator

Any ideas would help

 

Don't worry about it. Generally speaking, you won't sap your battery unless you're running a 12" woofer or two with a 1000W amp and you play it loud ALL the time. And you'll know it - your headlights will start to dim with the stereo on. For a basic audio system, it shouldn't be an issue.

 

Yeah. What Speedking said is pretty correct. To give you an example of what to expect here's the set up in my Rex. Though my car is an 85' the results should be similar. Ok here it is: Two 12" Fosgate Punch HE subs in the hatch area, two Fosgate 4" mids with seperate tweeters in front, two Fosgate 6x9's in the rear storage bin doors. One MTX (sucks!!!) 2way 6 channel electronic crossover, The 3 amps I am using are all Fosgate Punch DSM series amps all 3 add up to 700 watts RMS. continuous power. I did have a problem with my headlights dimming at max volume. It wasn't too bad. But I did buy a Fosgate 1 farad energy storage capacitor. Now there's no dimming at all. And my voltage guage steadily indicates 12.5-13 volts.

As you can see I am a little partial to Rockford Fosgate. You indicate you are going to buy "Crutchfield Alpine". Don't you mean you are going to buy Alpine stuff from Crutchfield? If so, you may want to check out a place online called etronics.com

You say you want to get some equipment then save up for amps and subs. That's a good way to go. Infact that's what I did. But if I were to put together another system again, I'd just go and do it on credit at Best Buy or Circuit City etc...etc... That way you get a complete system all at one time.

 

i pulled 1200watts out of a 98 civic with the stock battery...

i had 2 mbquart 6x9s
2 6.5 sony xplodes
2 12" alpine typeRs

i went with a little over kill on the amps and caps...
2 400watt coustic class d
1 400watt caidance
3 1 farrad fosgate digi caps

i played my loud as it would go and the lights didnt dim with a/c 7.5tv with dvd and half a gazillion guages/neons/leds

 

tony silvia only problem with that crutchfield has the stuff to put it in for free unless you know something that i dont know, the little plastic piece that makes ever thing plush that what i want unless i can get that somewhere else cheaper

 

Those install kits Crutchfield gives you for "free" you can buy elsewhere for about $20 or so, and they aren't always needed for an install - some of the trim pieces already come with the source unit. Crutchfield does make one-stop buying easy and they have great customer service, however, they charge full retail pricing. You can save a good 20% - 30% if you try some of the online vendors like thezeb.com, carstereopro.com, cbrstereo.com, etc. Not saying that Crutchfield is bad at all, but there are other options out there available to you that have the same product at lower prices (*and, as an aside, also carry brands that Crutchfield doesn't).

 

Yeah, I feel a little guilty for doing all my research at Crutchfield, then buying the parts from Etronics, but hey, they were selling Crutchfield's $280 amp for $175.

 

I bought my radio installation kit from Best Buy for 17 bucks. Looks good, nice fit, even came with a little storage pocket. I didn't even have to spend an extra 100 dollars to get a "free" kit from Crutchfield.

...anybody know of a site that charges less than etronics.com??? If so, post it in this thread. It's the cheapest I've found online.
