Question Looking for a stealthy sub install and sub recomendations

My system is Boston Pro 6.5's for my mains, Boston RM6's for the rears, being powered by an old Kenwood 40 watt 4 channel amp.
I don't need monster bass but would like a little more punch than what I have. I've already figured that I'll either have to get a new amp or at least add one, unless I can incorporate a self powered unit.
My question would be if anyone has a good stealth type location (spare wheel, trunk divider, etc) as well as a good recomendation for the sub and amp. I used to be quite knowledgeable in the stereo department but it's not the priority for me now like it was when I was 18.

As far as any fabrications I've got that covered, so I'm just looking for input on where and what type equipment I should be looking at.

Regards,
Frank

There were several "I'm going to copy the JL spare wheel stealthbox" threads a while ago, but I don't remember them going anywhere. Apparently there was a rare pre-fabbed stealthbox a while ago, and I think it required an amp.

There was a trunk-divider install posted a while ago, but it still had a huge box sitting in the back.

Some people are running the infiniti basslink and reported it as a good fit (sonically) for the FD. I've asked a few to post pics, but no dice . It's a self-powered single 10", ABS enclosure, 200W, servo-controlled, with adjustable low-pass filter. Runs about $200 now. I have one sitting in the garage, but I'm waiting to install a head unit first.

Yeah, i do remember a couple of the basslink posts going around, but like you said, no updates. Sooo, since you have one I guess it's up to you to get it hooked up and post some pics, as well as your impressions
Or you can send it to me and I'll give you my impressions, seeing as it's doing you alot a good sitting on the shelf

Regards,
Frank

Ps. the self powered units seem like a good idea, just in case you have to fit that 2nd set of golf clubs in the back you can always un-hook it.

Frank,

Currently my car is being fab for a custom sub enclosure.. Like most "older" 7 owners, we don't want 3x 15 inch subs and loosing all the trunk space.. So, this guy here in Alabama (who used to have the world record for highest db, for a week) is building me a box (he's hoping to sell few on the forum 300-400 range).

Its going to be made of fiberglass, housing 10 inch sub (I'm putting in JL10w6).. and possibly ported.. It will take up spare wheel well and could be covered up for factory look.. It should be ready within next 2 weeks.. I'll post detail pics when its ready..

Does anybody actually have a picture of that JL stealthbox? I've never seen one, and would like to know what it looks like.

Wow, finally found someone a few years older than me. I don't feel that old but that base sure helps to tell me I am, I can't take too much anymore.

I'm researching the same I want a 'little' more base, some small sub and a small amp. I remember there was a really nice divider job. 2 actually one with large box and one that only stuck out a bit further than the divider lip. Not including the amp mounted to the box. That's what I'm thinking of doing.

This is the one I was thinking of doing for my 7 but with a smaller sub

Thanks for the post vchacon!

Both of these are pretty much what I was thinking about. I like DamonB's better, since I have the non-bose package tray in the back you wouldn't see the woofer at all.
Now to just pic the right speaker, 8" or 10" would be just fine for my "elder" tastes. What are the box volumes necessary for todays speakers? I have the handy speaker book to help figure that out if you have the Qts and Vs (and that other thing )
Ok, then, let's get on with the type of speaker and amp I need

Regards,
Frank

Just to get a feel for things, check out www.crutchfield.com for typical specs, they're very organized as far as tabling manuf. data. Their selection leaves something to be desired, however, and their prices aren't always the best

For a sealed box you can 'get away' with using .3-.6cu.ft. on certain speaker models. Just prepare to be shocked at the sheer mounting depth of some of these bastards.

I don't think DamonB is making kits any more

I talked to damon a while back about that box - i was interested in getting one but he wasnt selling them.

I ended up just measuring and building one that matched his. I used a JL10w0 (im cheap) w/ an MTX 200 watt amp (low wattage subs are great).

Only thing is it is not carpeted or painted. I sealed all the seams w/ weather stripping, caulk, and of course wood screws.

Its a good amount of bass w/o making a ton of noise outside. In fact, at high volume and the 7 closed up, you can barely hear the bass outside.

Location is great and trunk space is mostly kept in tact. I mounted the amp on the back of the box so it totally removable.

Only disadvantage, no golf clubs in the 7.

I know, that always bums me out with the way I have my system in the car. The CD changer and my amp are both located under the rear strut brace so I can't put my bag through there. I just put my pull cart in back and put the club bag in the passenger seat. No passengers though, but oh well.

I have two jl 12w0's and they require 1.5 cubic feet of dead air space. they also can take just about as much amp as you like as long as as you're reasonable with your volume. Personally I'm gonna scrap the 12's and go with possibly 3 jl 10w3's. I'm more into rock and don't need the gangsta bass like I thought was cool in high school.

Hey all. I'm looking into buying an RX-7 as my next car. THis being true, i decided to purchase a sub that i could transfer to the 7's hatch. I chose one JL Audio 10W6 V2 with the JL Audio Mono Block 250 watt amp. LEt me tell you that this is THE best bass i have ever heard (i listen to mostly rock as well). It provides tight, incredible sounding bass for rock and when i do play rap, adjusts accordingly. Right now i have a civic and the bass fills the larger cabin of my car fine and produces more/better sounding bass than the 2 rockford's i had before. I would stronlgy suggest this sub if you're looking for a single sub to provide your bass.

u think getting a free JL 12w6 with a ported box that is carpeted a good deal? does anyone have this sub and how good is it? i personally think its great (haven't installed yet) since its free, i also got a 900 watt DHD amp in that deal. Will the crips hear me coming around the corner in my hood with this sub?

Well, kinda'. I do make some tube design sub enclosures but I didn't want to go that route in my car.

Has anyone done anything with those new shallow mount subs 1.5"-2"? I believe Blaupunkt released them a year ago, and Pioneer just announced one. They could make an interesting skinny box that'd fit under the shocktower brace.

I've been searching this fourm for like a week with no luck. I looking for some pics of a fiber glass box built into the tire well enclosing a 10" and two amps. Also once you place that fiberglass over the amp can you place anything over top it like a bag or something?

DO NOT GET Blaupunkt!!!!!

I would not have the amp covered by any thing. they need to have air to cool.
