I would still really like to see some Recaro SPA's or SPG's (non pro-racer) in the FD

they are indeed recaro sportster CS .... BUT they are not directly on the original rail. i'll post a picture from the piece i welded between the stock rail and seat. it's easy and fitment is really tight. 1 mm space between door panel and the side from the seat.
there is one down side it sits a little higher then stock

Kai, how is the fitment of those seats? Any rubbing? How comfortable are they?

they are very comfortable the only thing is it does rub on the side a bit, does not affect closing of the door but it does dent it a bit, I dont have a problem with that but for some it will be...also if you use Recaro rails it will sit a bit higher and wont rub the door..

After finishing this thread, I'm still at the same place I was yesterday. I'm a tall person which just fits in the FD. I wanted to track the car and wanted some head and leg clearance. I don't know what to buy... What is a good seat + rail combo for maximum clearance? I'm lost...

If you can find a pair and don't mind the price, the mazda JDM Spirit R/RZ seats are the way to go for you. You sit lower, plus you can get them with an optional tilt feature on the rails. I have a set I got from FDNewbie Imports (can't say enough good things about Ramy btw) and they really afford more head and leg room. Bolt right in, oem safety tested. The funny thing is I'm not exactly 6 feet tall, so don't need all the extra room

You need to start with what kind of seat to you want: Fixed or reclinable?

I'm good for either. Reclinable is nice but I just want something good, seating doesn't bother me as long as theres clearance. I'll get used to it.

The "clearance" really comes from how you mount/install the seat, rather than the seat itself for the most part. As you can see from the pictures, the "racing seats", i.e. non-reclinable seats, generally have less padding than the others. That can gain you an inch or so of height (depending on the mounting).

Various companies like Bride and MemoryFab have Super Low brackets which can be used with most other seats. You just have to get creative with this car.

I will be installing a Momo Start 2007 this weekend. The reason I picked the Momo Start is because I wanted a seat which I could properly mount the anti-sub strap on my harness. That's another consideration for you as the bucket/reclinable seats generally do not have the anti-sub strap provision.
