Just wanted to give a heads-up on some speakers that fit our doors. (non-bose)

In searching for threads about audio components in the FD, I found a lot of people had trouble finding speakers that were shallow enough to fit in the doors.

I bought a pair of Pioneer TS-G1641R 6.5" speakers without knowing that this was a common issue and I got lucky. These fit in the stock plastic speaker wells in the doors and they have a hole pattern that matches up to the inner holes on the stock speaker well. I installed mine with some M5 metric bolts. The only thing I had to do is cut off the 3 little locating pins that are on the rim of the speaker well (you'll know what I'm talking about when you look at yours.)

These are the cheapest speakers in this size that I could find at Best Buy and I don't know what they sound like yet, but if you are not an audiophile and just want to replace your factory speakers these might work for you.

Yeah I have some Pioneers as well but my only complaint about installing them is that you break every damn clip on the door panel just getting the panel off. However the Pioneers do seem to fit the best for our cars...good information here.

My door panels have never been on the car while in my possession, so I didn't have to worry about breaking anything. You can see there is one broken clip in the picture...

They were $49.99/pr.

I just realized I should have put this in the audio section. I'm sorry Mister Moderator.

I won a $50 gift certificate to Best Buy, needed speakers, and this is what I found. They were basically free to me so I'm not really worried about it.

I posted a question about this. Do you think with mods to the door NOT the door panel I could fit a 7" driver? i am a bit of an audiophile so i cant do a cheap speaker. They sound so good I think its what the 7 needs but i wont mod the panel. If not I will just go with a 6". Any thoughts? Good thread.

in my fd i was able to get in infinity reference series speakers, though the kappa series would fit no prob or jbl's (same parent company). with the plastic trim i cut out the backs on mine and had about 2 1/4 inch depth and a 6" diameter for speakers. my original plan was mb quart 6 3/4's but they were just too big and i didnt feel like fabbing new plates so i just threw in the infinity's instead. i also dynamatted the whole door and its practically a sealed chamber now after 2 layers of dynamat extreme

I highly doubt you will be able to fit that in the door, depth wise you are limited to about 2.5 inches....but since our rears are so close I would focus on putting somethin g that big back there.

The shop that installed my speakers removed the entire plastic enclosure in the door panel and fabbed up one from wood then used a wood 1/2 inch trim ring to mount my speakers. My dillemma is that I want to install a 6 3/4 inch speaker that is 2 5/8 inches deep. I want to buy the speakers but not if they just WILL NOT fit without butchering the panel or door.
