jenson radio install

ok, i bought an 87 fc and it came with a sony cd player. no face plate and as i later found out it wasnt even hooked up. so i took it out and i had a jenson cd player model MP3310. i went upon the task to install it today and i had no luck. i was wondering if any of you guys knew what wires on an fc were for what for the radio. any help would be appreciatted very much. thanks

ewww...did somebody cut the factory harness off? If so, then I hope you're handy with a multimeter. IF the harness is still there...then you need to buy an adapter harness (any decent car audio shop should carry one) Wire that harness to the one that came with the jensen radio (just match the colors), then plug the harness to the factory harness and then the other end into the radio. Assuming there's no electrical problems then it should power on fine.

Now, with that said, if the factory harness is cut off...then you can test all the wires with a multimeter and a speaker popper (a 9volt batter with a wire coming off each terminal works well...find the little cover that snaps over the terminals and has 2 wires coming off of it...you can also just take a AA battery and tape a wire to each end). Anyway, you need to test the factory wires in the dash for 12v constant(yellow wire) and 12v accessory(red wire) (only on when the key is on), you can find the ground using the continuity tester on the meter) (black wire) If you need the power antenna...just do it the easy way and jump power over from the 12v accessory wire. To find what speakers are which wires...you need to hold one of the wires from your speaker popper to a wire...and then one at a time hit each of the remaining wires until you hear one of your speakers pop....these will be the 2 wires for that speaker....do this until you have all the speaker wires grouped together. Next match these to the harness white/white black =front left speaker....gray/gray black=front right. Green/Greenblack =rear left...Purple/Purple black= rear right.

Another note on popping speakers. You need to make sure the phase is right for each one. When you pop a speaker if it flexes out then you have the negative and postive right. If it flexes inward...then the negative and positive are reversed....just switch them.

So with all this said...just pray the factory harness is still there...hahah. Have fun!
