Question installing a '96-'98 Rear wing.......what do I use to plug existing R1 holes??

Hey guys, just wondering if any of you have run into this problem? The bolt pattern on my new wing is different and I will be left with about 4 holes that need to be plugged. I do not intend on paying a body shop $1k to do this......so of course I don't expect this fix to be perfect. As long as it prevents rust and is not extremely noticeable I'll be happy. Any suggestions ?? Thank you.

Better get it bondo'd and repainted man..if you really want it to look clean. I'd install the new wing after you've gotten that taken care of.

Well. ... I haven't actually brought it to a shop yet. But I would imagine that they would have to paint the whole rear hatch correct ? Someone suggested some type of rubber plugs. The holes that I would have to get plugged are (2) on each side on the far outside of the hatch.

try and make friends w/ a bodyshop guy... it helps. Plugging them w/ rubber plugs or whatever will just bug the **** out of you later.... I suggest trading hatches w/ someone that has a touring. It makes things much easier.

P.S. What color is your car... silver?

Not necessarily the whole rear hatch...just the small areas around the holes.

Er..but now that I think about it..there isn't too much room on that rear hatch.

I have seen people that have plugged the holes and used a sealant to prevent leakage, but if it's visible, it will really look kinda ghetto.

Now if that new wing covers up the plugs..then it might not matter.

I'd kill for a rear wiper. I hate the fact that I don't have one. Same thing goes for my WRX. The rain just SITS there..ugh!

Hey, i just removed the winsheild wiper on my tourer, and got a nice, low-profile plastic plug from home depot, and painted it silver, and used a little aqurium sealer on it. it fit perfectly, snapped right on, and is barely noticeable.

That sounds good. Thanks for the post ! As far as trading.........I'd do it if the hatch I'm trading with is in just as good condition and includes a rear wiper. Archangel........thanks for the offer, but I really would like to keep my wiper.

I'm sorry, I meant to say Wonderland. I'd really like to get a hatch with a wiper. Thanks again for the offer.

Geez, you guys actually want a rear wiper, I didn't think anyone actually liked those. I hate mine, but I live in Cali, so the car never sees rain. I'd really hate it if I didn't have an R1 spoiler on the hatch, because it would stick out more, but I'm contemplating just going for the clean, no spoiler/no wiper look...

I hear ya Nathan, but living in New Orleans, LA is nothing but Humidity and Rain. The gulf just keeps it coming. Still would consider a trade if anyone is interested.
