Important interior question...
Alright,
This is about color combinations:
My interior is red/black. The seats, door panels, headliner, and rear bin area are all red. The carpet and dash are black.
I have a set of rear seats that I would like to install. The side panels that go in rear to accomodate the seats are a combination red and black, and the seat belts and their latches are all in black. My seat belts/latches along with the rear side panels are all red.
My question is, if my ('93) was ordered with rear seats would my front belts/latches be in black, along with the black rear side panels? I just want to make sure I don't put something in their that was meant to go with a different red/black combination.

Alright...
Let me make myself more clear: My vehicle does NOT have rear seats and I am well aware that NO US cars had rear seats. The seats I have bought are Japanese.
However, the side panels, which replace my own, are predominantly black, they are red around the area that contacts the actual rear seat.
My concern is whether or not these are side panels for another black/red combination type (NOT the type I have).
I want to make sure they are correct; and if not, I can recolor the black before I install everything .
If anyone has rear seats or a different red/black combination than mine (which is descibed in the first post), I will greatly appreciate the information. I am trying to make sure the car looks stock to go with my stock GSLSE; which makes it important to me .

P.S. For anyone who has rear seats, do you have a different console assembly than a vehicle without?

I've found some more information through a few more searches,
I've found that there were two red/black interior combinations. I'm not exactly sure when they switched them, but there were not produced together and the red/black was dropped all together mid '94, at least in the US.
The old red/black included red doors, red headliner, red bins, and red seats (and seatbelts).
The new included only red carpet and red seats.
Which I have come to the conclusion that my rear side panels should be red, so I will probably recolor them. And to match the rear seats, change my front seat belts to black.
Does anyone have any experience going from black to red on Mazda plastic?

I have a solid black rear seat setup. Recoloring vinyl is difficult, esp the hard plastic. Rather than chance ruining your original stock parts or your rare JDM parts, I think you should try putting them in as-is and see how you like it. Keep it that way for a couple of months, because it may grow on you. As you said, the dash and center console are black, so it should blend fine. BTW, the solid red interior you have is a different red than what is in the 94+ cars with only red seats and carpet. One is more red and the other is more burgandy. I can't remember which is which as I've never seen them side by side. Good luck with the change.

Thanks for the information...
I have photos of the seats I am going to put in, and they seem to be the same color that I have currently...which is more burgundy; not quite bright red.
I am almost positive the rear seats are from a newer vehicle, and because I previously thought the red was changed to a brighter color in '94 I think perhaps either Mazda continued to use the darker red in Japan or reverted back to it.
As far as my plans for recoloring...after hearing that bit of information I might decide not to color them; and red to black is a stretch anyway. I think the black will look fine, I just wanted to try and retain as much of the red as possible.
Maybe I'll find a set of side panels in red at some point.

The side panels are actually covered with pleather, they're not hard plastic. So, if you were to find a pleather, leather or other material that matched your red you could have them covered. I think finding a matching color would be difficult though. Black will look fine. People will be to blown away by the back seat to notice such a trivial thing really.

Oh,
I has speculated about that(I haven't received the seats yet of course) ...didn't realize it was vinyl, nonetheless it will probably look great anyway; but good to know in case it's really unnerving.
Thanks for the continuing info.
