Does it matter what type of hood I get to keep the cool air flowing? I will want to go to a v-mount at some point if that maters, and yes the car is in the rain...maybe snow. =/

You'll want something that has little turbulance, with fins directed with the flow of the air not against... other than that, more openings closer to the V-Mount IC will perform better, but if you're concerned about rain, rain trays possibly removable, and or a "Track Hood" and a "Rain Hood" might be the best solution, since you don't want all that moisture in there, and yet you want a lot of free flowing air... and the stock hood, will provide, some flow, since the stock IC opens up into the engine bay, and doesn't seem to suffer from the stock hood, but does also seem to benefit from the extra ventialtion... so when you nee the ponies, or know in the summer rain is rare... pop on the vented hood, in the winter put on the stock, air is cold enough then anyhow, plus traction will most likely be a bigger problem...

ya, several hoods I have seen have slots in them. I also would like to know if the CF hoods help keep the heat down?

Having CF vs other materials isn't going to show any noticable difference in temps.

Dont CF hoods warp under heat? (thats what I heard)

CF hoods wouldnt be such a great idea if is true being that our rotaries create so much heat.

"Rain-blocking plates" are unnecessary, imo.
The only problem with rain/snow is when you are actaully parked for any duration of time. Driving through foul weather isn't a big deal.
Back when I had a Knightsport replica hood, I woul d keep a trashbag in the trunk, and spread it out over the engine bay when I park it @ work on rainy days & carwashings.

The Scoot hood helped my temperatures for sure although I did some other mods that were more effective.

You don't need the rain guards. I don't use them and if anyone wants them, I'll sell you 2 sets CHEAP. They don't fit with my setup anyway...

if you have an fd, almost all the hoods focus on getting hot air out rather than cold air in. If your really concerned with oyur engine temps, id go with scoot cause it has both.

Depending on who makes the replica, yes. If it's from Rotary Extreme, RX-7 Store or http://www.atihun.com/parts.html .... You can count on fitment being good. However, some replicas fit extremely bad and you end up spending more money getting the imperfections taken care of than if you would have bought an original.

Keep this in mind, that just because something is "original" doesn't mean that fitment will be great either (i.e. the Scoot hood).

Whatever body kit/part you order, just keep some extra cash on hand just in case the parts need to be worked on a little.

I've had 3 replicas (1 damaged, 1 stolen, and now the 3rd) from Rotary Extreme.

I am pleased with the fitment on all accounts. They have varied a bit but in all cases there was not excessive extra fitting some some minor work. I would expect that even from the "original" scoot hood.

Rain trays were made mostly for Japan not the US, since a good 80% of the cars over here are parked outside due to the lack of garages..

Like mentioned you dont need it for driving. The trash bag is a good idea after the engine cools..

My fav is the AD-9 from RE-Amemiya. Scoot is cool, but too extreme for me...
