help with speakers

hey im thinking about gettin some decent speakers for my fc and i have a few in mind. (Alpine Type-S or Infinity Reference 6002i) or something similar. my car got robbed a couple months ago and they taxed my audiobahn amp, pioneer cd player, 2 10" subs and boxes, and some cds. but i guess its all for the best haha cause my cars lighter and i have more room now for stuff when i move. the thing is im confused on where i would put the speakers in at, because i dunno what size to get for the fronts or backs. the back speakers above the struts are stock pos's and the front drivers side doesnt have anything, and the pass. side one has some weird box shaped speaker. it doesnt even have a place to mount a normal shaped speaker. (i know i sound dumb, but im new to fc's and audio installation..haha). and when i go to crutchfield (just for speaker selection because it has a "what fits my car", im not paying those prices.) it has speakers for the "front door" even though there are no mounts for speakers there. anyways, i was wondering what i should get so that i have decent sounds, and how i should go about installing it and what speakers go where. i cant afford an extra amp to power the speakers so i need ones that could run off cd player and everything. also, i noticed when i had my old setup the amp would drain the power to my car quite a bit, and sometimes my car wouldn't start. the alternator is pretty new so i doubt its that. but do you guys think that have a basic 2(or 4) speaker set-up and cd player would cause that lack of power again? anyways, any help would be appreciated. thanks, nick

nevermind, im dumb. it was sounddomain.com that said front doors. crutchfield says dash and side panel (which i guess is the spot above the struts) but they don't have any options for the dash. would it be better to just get ones for the back/side panel and say screw the front, or should i go for all 4?

They're 4" in front and 6.5" in back I've got the Alpine Type-S in now and they sound pretty good. The front speakers are kinda hard to get to at least the front right I had to drill a couple holes for wires because my front right was shorting out the rear ones aren't too hard probably have to cut off the stock grille that's what I did at least it looks alright.

k, thanks for the replies guys. i was checkin out sites online for good deals on the speakers and what i decided was to get a pair of 6.5" infinity 6002i's for the back and 5.25" infinity kappa's for the front. ( for some reason my front speaker grills are 5.25" i think) but now i have a dilemma. originally i was gonna just run the front and back speakers off the head unit and hopefully it would sound decent. but i heard the kappa's sound bad without an amp powering them, and when i checked out my rear speaker spots, i realized that i somehow i have 4" polk audio speakers there already. in some kind interior grill/maybe a small amp, i dont even know. its just circular and has a spot for a 4" speaker. well, back before my car was jacked i thought the speakers sound kinda crappy, so i just figured they were stock paper cone pos's. but since they're decent polk's i now think i should consider running an amp with the system. anyways, im not too sure what wattage i would need run the system, and im not sure if i should replace the polk speakers with 6.5"s. plus, i dont know how i would install it because the spot above the struts is actually a lot bigger than 6.5" and i dunno if i would need an adapter to install them.

anyways the 3 questions i need help answering are:
1. should i leave the 4" polks and get some nice 5.25"s for the front?
2. if i do that should i get an amp? and what wattage/brand would you suggest that would be cheap and decent.
3. should i ditch the polks, and get the 6002i's? if i do, how would i go about installing them?

once again, all the help, suggestions, and input is greatly appreciated. thanks, nick

p.s. one last thing, i have a pair of 6" (i think) cerwin-vega's that i might be able to use. they're free, and if i could figure out how to install them they might be pretty decent. you guys think i should try using those? thanks again.

The problem with the location of the dash speakers is that A) they are aimed towards your knees... the placement sucks, and B) there isn't a whole lot of space in there, so most good aftermarket speakers won't fit.

If you are going through all the time and trouble to get aftermarket speakers, you want them to sound good, right?

Go with separates... Tweeters up by the A pillars, mids down in the kickpanels... More work = better sound.

that would definately sound better, but itll most likely cost more. were you thinking i just get some components for the front, or actual seperate speakers and tweeters for that. plus if i do that, im going to HAVE to get an amp for them to sound good right? haha im so poor, basically im just wondering if theres a way i can get decent sounding speakers with decent bass without running an amp. also if anyone has an opinion about keeping the 4" polks in the back or gettin 6.5s to replace em that would be awesome. cause im having trouble deciding what to do. theres so many choices and it would be a hell of a lot easier if money wasn't an issue, but sadly, like always, it is..haha. anyways any input is appreciates, thanks again for all the replies.
