Help put together FD sound system..

So I have 93 Fd and I decided I want to put in a suound system however I have no idea where to start. I have about a 400 dollar budget and I want a system with a good loud mid range, decent bass, and crisp sound. Also I want to add a good sub or two at the end of the summer. I'll need a new faceplate too. Any suggestions? Thanks

just get this headunit : alpine CDA 9835 ( you will like it ) and since you are under budget, forget about installing sub...amp.. cause those will run you lot of $$$. what u can do is save up some $$$ and do everything at one.

$400 budget and you want a "system with a good loud mid range, decent bass, and crisp sound", good luck. You need to seriously revise your budget. cda-9835 is a good choice, albeit it is a few years old, good DAC's and great sq. I think the lowest quality speaker set is a set made my vifa thats around 100 to 150, or if you know what your doing and you can run your system active you can buy individual drivers. That would require more amplification though. Just for a reference, my system is top-notch sq wise and has just enough thump and i spent:
alpine w200 used off of fleabay- 500
rainbow profi - 450 front and back -900
audison lrx 6.9ch - 700
custom soundsplinter tc09 sub - 300
misc wiring - 150
fortunately i know what im doing so i installed and built the sub box myself, but in the end it ran me $2500. Although you can shave money here and their, for what you want, you will not get it done under $400.

~$200 will buy you a decent Alpine head unit depending on sale prices and such.

From there figure out what you want to do with speakers.

funny you mention that headunit, my roommate has that exact one. so 400 bucks is a start thats all i needed to know. I have someone doing my installation already so I'll save money there, and i wasnt think about subs, sub boxes etc. so I wont need the money there either. I was just thinking of a little something to get me started thats all. Thank you for help guys.

Where are you talking about in north jersey? I'll actually be up there a pretty good amount over the summer (my girlfriend lives up there) so I could definitely check some places out. People here in south jersey can get something half decent for a couple hundred bucks at tweeter, or best buy, with free installation. Thanks.

Spec out what you want new and then hunt around for the same units used.

I agree with everybody, $400 is not a whole lot...

You might want to start with a GOOD 4 channel amp, 2 channel for the fronts, and two channels for A sub (bridge\mono).

up your budget to $ and you can get a nice alpine head unit, infinity reference speakers all the way around, and an amp for the speakers.

Hmmm. I personally like to run a 4 channel amp (a componant set for the front and coaxiles for the back) and a monoblock amp for the subs.

I don't know how crazy you're trying to go, but I'm thinking about an Infiniti BassLink for bass.

Man I get product for 75% percent off and I can install it myself but 400 would still be pushing it.

I don't use speakers on the rear, specially coaxials or components. If anything, a set of 8 ohms woofers (5 1/4 or 6 inches) in stereo, or two 4 ohms speakers on series to a bridge channel (normally the left channel); but that is my preferences, and not everybody listens to music the same way.

I agree with the 4 channel amp + sub amp. The only problem is that he only have $400, a GOOD (brand new) 4 X 25W amp will cost him that much. Thats why I recommended a 4channel amp for startup, and once he gets more $$$ on his pockets a separate amp for the subs is a good idea.
