Help with my audio problem...
Alright, I need some help here with my audio set-up. So far I've got 2 sets of 6 inch speakers, a set of tweeters, and one set of 4 inch speakers. The 4 inch speakers are mounted into the dash, one set of the 6 inch speakers in the door panels, and the other 6 inch speakers are mounted in the back, and the tweeters are mounted on the inside by the mirrors. So I'm wondering here, how can I build a good full range sound system here? I will be buying a sub to go with them, so that will take care of my lows, and I figure I can use the 4 inch speakers and tweeters to take care of my highs, and the 2 sets of 6 inch speakers for my mids. So, how exactly can I make these speakers do this? I know I'm gonna need some sort of crossovers, and probably a small amp since the speakers in the door panels are not stock, and the stock wiring will not power 2 sets of speakers. Any ideas?
yeah, you are going to need a sub amp for sure. how do you have your tweeters and 4"s x-overd now? you should prob get all outboard amps if you want loud and /or good sound quality. just one is needed for cheap and ok sound depending on the speakers and amp choices wiring etc...one option you have is to line level (coils and resitors )the tweeter/4"/ 6" x-over if it was a three way set or not if they are all coaxials. another choice is to run bass blockers(cheap capacitorsthat stop bass frequencies at a light slope) on all of your highs and mids and buy an electronic in amp x-over for the sub and run three way with the low end cut off going to the sub and blocking the lows from going and blowing your midscheapest way prob. or you can $$ then run another four way amp and cut out some of the coils and capacitors to the other speakers. i am thinking that the 4's and door 6's are coaxial and x-overd internally. if not use a combination of linelevel and electronic x-overs to find the price and sound you like. hope my rambling helps
Alright, well, I've been thinking. I'm gonna have to run the 6 inch speakers from an amp probably, since the stock 22 gauge wiring isn't going to work the best. I figured the 4 inch speakers could easily be run by the stock wiring, since they're small and will only be used for highs, since they won't push mids as well. The ones on the door panels could push the mids, since they do not have tweeters built into them. The tweeters will of course push the highs. Now the speakers in the back I could get with tweeters built into them, and use them to push highs and mids. Then I could get one sub to push all my lows. Does this sound good? Or is there another speaker setup I should be using? I guess this is the best way to start is to figure out what band pass I'll need to push with each set of speakers. Then I can work out what I need to power them and how to set them up on the band pass.
Alright, I went through and measured the speakers, and found out they aren't the right sizes. The speakers in the dash are 3.5" Rockford Coaxials, the ones in the doors are 5.25" Sony Xplod Components with the tweeters for them by the mirrors, and the rear speakers on top of the shocks are 5.25" Kenwood Coaxials, and the deck is a Kenwood deck. Now, I need to figure out how I'm going to build my full range sound system from these. I don't believe I can put any bigger speakers in the car, but I can go check later today. Now, I know I can push some good mids out of the 5.25" speakers in the door panels, highs out of the tweeters, highs out of the 3.5" speakers in the dash, and mids and highs out of the 5.25" speakers in the back. I'm pretty sure I'm gonna need like a 600 watt 4 channel amp to push the 5.25" speakers. Now for the 3.5" speakers and the tweeters I could probably use the stock wiring, since they shouldn't require that much power, but I'm still now too sure. I would like to use all Rockfords or Infinities, and a Rockford amp and wiring. Any suggestions on speakers, wiring, and amp?
you want a high frontal sound stage not like 16 year olds that roll dads taurus and fade to the rear because the 6x9's got sooo much bass..... so cut out the under dash 3.25's they are worthless, they do not give clear highs because they are pointed at your feet and highs are not omnidimentional like bass frequencies that the 4's don't produce either, sell them on ebay. then buy one amp. it needs to be a 5 channel soudstream made a good one it retails cheap on ebay or sound domain if you want to pay more. it will run your entire system. no head unit sounds unless you are poor, they are low quality and the wireing sucks. you rcomponet set should have a passive crossover to cut off the mid-woofer and the tweeter and they should be ran together off of one channel with the high pass crossover of the internal x-overd amplifier directing 80-120 Hz to the sub depending on size which uses the 5th channel of the amp, then the rear coaxials should be crossed over by the internal amp at a slightly higher freq. if possible and if anything gets ran off of the headunit it should be these. they are only there for rear fill sound to give a more front and high sound stage. this will be the cheapest and easiest install. use the extra money to build false floors in your storage bins with a cooling fan setup to cool all of your circuitry like i did! all though my system is a little more involved. good luck and remeber grandma doesn't like outkast turn it down at stoplights....
btw rockford was good ten years ago since quality and ruggedness has fallen and thier amps are no where near as under rated for power as they were, get some quality gear if you have the cash to waste on rockford and infinity stuff. boston, mb quart, focal, dd, JLAUDIO for gods sake these are good gear

I have those speakers already in those locations in the car. That's why I want to use those speaker locations. Why would I cut those 3.25" speakers though? They seem like they could give good mids and highs, even if they are pointed at the ground. They aren't under the dash, and they are pointed more at your knees than anything. I could buy a new component system for the front that comes with some 5.25" speakers and tweeters and the correct crossover that should supply me with mids and highs right? The rear speakers could be replaced with new 5.25" coaxial speakers too, but what would you set on the deck to run the rear speakers? So you're thinking of a sound system like this?

Also, you're saying I should put my amp in the storage bin and build a cooling system for it? I was thinking of putting speakers in there, but I'm sure all you would get is lows from them because the carpeting would muffle the sound. Also, what size amp are you talking about and what size wiring would you use and did you pull out all of the stock wiring? Also, the reason I want Infinity or Rockford is because I can get them for very cheap off eBay, whereas JL Audio is decently expensive. I figured Infinity and Rockford were very good for the price.

I think I've about got this thing figured out. Sorry for all the questions, but I am learning a ton here.

Also, what size 5 channel amp are you talking about and what size wiring would you use for the amp and speakers? Did you pull out all of the stock wiring? Could I just get a small 4 channel amp to run my speakers for now, and just buy another amp to run my sub later? 5 channel amps are rather expensive, and you can get the small 4 channel amps for a really good price. I think I'm about ready to start ordering stuff.

It's within my price range it looks, so what do you guys think? I think it should all work out pretty well. Those Infinity Kappas are actually really really nice, I've heard them before, and they give some awesome mids and highs. Also, I found out today that those little speakers under the dash won't be heard at all. I had them hooked up with just the rear speakers alone, and I couldn't hear them at all. I'll be selling them here shortly I'm sure.

I would run 4 gauge power wire to where you want the amp/s. Hook it into a disribution block for future expansion9run the wire only once) Make sure you fuse the wire on more then 15" from the battery. I would run all new 16 gauge speaqker wire to all the speakers. Make sure you run a remote turn on wire from the radio when you run your RCA's.
P.S. make sure the ground wire is the same size as your power wire.(4 gauge)
Oh that Fosgate ampr looks nice. If you do not want to add another amp later for your subs you can use that basslink or a powered Baooka.

Just got my Infinity Reference Component speakers in yesterday, and I'm working on dremeling down the speaker grills to make them fit correctly in that hole in the dooor panel. I'll post pictures once I'm done.
I'll be ordering my amp and wiring here pretty soon too, and I'll definitely keep you guys updated.

Alright, so I've started to build my audio system in the car, and here's what I'm going to be putting in it.

I've already got these installed into the car, and they sound great hooked into the stock speaker wires. Here's a picture:

Next, these will be going in too.

They will be going into the stock speaker locations pictured here:

The speakers I have pictured above are being hooked up with 16 gauge Rockford Power speaker wire. So now my question is this. What am I gonna need to run these sets of speakers? I was thinking this might work, but I'm not too sure yet.

The amp will be run by an 4 gauge Rockford Power wiring kit so I won't have a problem delivering power to the amp. If you guys could help me out with an amp choice, I'd be very grateful. Thanks!

Do you need a 4ch or 2ch amp? I would suggest checking out the Elemental Designs amps at www.edesignaudio.com really quality stuff for a decent price.
