Question Help with double din install into FD

I just bought the Pioneer AVH-P4000....i its a double din. The deck does not come with any mounting bracket and is a lot smaller then the hole. I thought i may be able to use the clips from the side of the stock deck, but that wont work.

I figure maybe a bolt into the back of the deck, through the metal brace in the back of the cars din. but that gives the deck no suport at the front.

any help with how this can be mounted please speak up...

I had the same problem, my solution involved fabricating a metal U shaped bracket. I drilled and countersunk holes to attach it to the sides of the deck using the screws that came with it. I welded a 5/16" bolt to the bracket and secured it with a washer and nut to the stock mounting bracket. To stablilize the front of the deck and fill in the gap between it and the dash, I milled out a trim ring from a 1/4" sheet of aluminum. I also polished it to match the bezel rings on the gauge cluster.

Our cars have 2 standard din openings, which is actually different than double din. Sounds like you need to buy a bezel to make up the difference.

My guess is many places carry them. Crutchfield,Pro Audio, or aftermarket car audio installers etc... just do a search. Sorry I don't have suggestions for the rear support. I cut mine out but with the harness it was all a pretty tight fit and I don't have any problems. But my unit is different from yours since I have a 2 standard din unit.

A good resource for me when working on Headunits is here if noone on this forum has info for you. Good luck!

Hey Shawn, so you are the other FD owner that bought the same deck as me...lol....from the ancaster futureshop.

Yeah you need to buy the Double DIN install kit from Pioneer. Part # ADT-VA133.

It comes with the metal cage to insert into the din (once you cut the plastic piece that makes it into single dins).

You can get it from East Hamilton Radio for $79.99 (Futureshop was charging me $100) and while your at it you can also grab the iBus ipod cable from bestbuy for $29.99, i paid more at EHR since i didnt think BBuy carried it but they do. I would call EHR first to make sure they have it.

Goodluck and hope this helps. Happy New Year

Hey Shawn,

Yeah it was funny cause when i asked them to look up DIN install kits, they asked me for what car and when i told them FD rx7, she was like "how come everybody has rx7s today, the last guy i sold this deck too has one too, but its in storage"......lol. Didnt know who it was till I saw your thread.

Yeah the iBUS cable that plugs in the back lets you control your ipod thru your deck while the front plug doesnt.

Glad I helped out, cheers

Well with your tid bit of info, you helped me out with everything i needed and where to get it.

I went to BB to get the ibus...29.99 as you said, but i also have an 8g USB stick. I asked how it shows up on the deck...stick compared to ipod. He said if i make folders with all my different options on the stick (video, music, movies etc) it will interface the same way on the deck. With that in mind i think i may return the ipod cable, and just use the usb stick. In the long run, a lot cheaper for me as i dont have an ipod......i was going to just steal my wifes LOL

I then drove down to EHR to get the cage kit, again $79.99 as you said! Made it half way home and noticed the box tape was cut so i figured id take a boo inside at the next stop light. Opened it and low and behold the mounting screws were all missing. Pulled over and called EHR and told them of the missing parts...
He said there was one more kit left that had not been opened, so i drove all the way back down again to exchange them

When I returned to EHR, I mentioned I lived far far away in Ancaster lol, so i deserved a discount for my troubles. He agreed and gave me the other kit for $69.99

So now its time for the install...wish me luck

again thanks for your help

cheers

Ahhh so you had the same "ill sell you a car sterio, but i know nothing about them" girl. Every question i had she couldnt answer. I even had to figure out for myself if the buttons could be illuminated to orange, to mach stock. When i asked her she had no clue. Once i messed around in the options/tools i was able to see that the deck could. This was one of the selling features for me, as i hate all different colours in the car...that and the smoking $350 sale price!

Its odd that i have never seen you before....what colour is your FD? How long have you had it. I know there is a candy red and silver one in the ancaster area. but its always passing me on the willson st off ramps, so its kinda hard to give the "7 nod"

any how keep in touch, we will have to get together for a drink in the summer!!

Shawn

blue/white amp wire?

If anyone sees this soon.....the aftermarket deck has a blue/white striped wire to be conected to what wire on my metra harness? I believe this will be the wire to give power to the BOSE amps, but not 100% positive.

I searched but im getting different stories......My metra harness has a blue/white "amp turn on" wire, but i read somewhere to attach it to "pwr antenna" wich is solid blue.

I also read that it should be attached to a light green wire on the original OEM harness, and that im suppose to cut this out of the oem harness and connect it to the blue/white deck wire?

What wire should i attach it too?

Can you post what wire went where? I dont need this info but it will be helpful for someone who stumbles onto this thread and has the same question as you.

Post some pics if you dont mind of your setup. I'd love to see it since I've been eyeballing some navigation units for my FD.

I think I have this one. http://www.crutchfield.com/p_113DNX5...20.html?tp=144

If it isn't that exact one, it is a similar Kenwood double din with Garmin nav.

Fits and works very well - the Garmin Navigation is awesome. Didn't need to buy any expensive extras to get it to fit. It just slipped right in after cutting out the thing plastic divider in the a/c panel with a dremel. I got mine on Amazon.com from 6th Ave electronics for a smoking deal.

It ended up being the "amp" blue/white strip wire on the deck harness to the same colour scheme of wire on the OEM harness......all the wires match up to one another exactly with the Metra harness.

I was confused because i searched, and read some where that the blue/white wire coming from the deck didnt have a match on the aftermarket plug n play harness of your choice.....I think this was true for a few years back. But the the harness from Metra colour codes exactly, even the amp turn on wire (blue/white).

The deck I bought does not have navi, as its something i dont believe i need in a weekend warrior...I have it in my DD. The deck is the Pioneer AVH-P4000DVD, personally the perfect deck for my needs. touchscreen double din. IPod and USB interface and DVD, which ill prob never use anyways.

Ill take some pics for you, though id have to admit i think its prob the most stock looking doube din deck for the 7 i have seen yet, compared to pics on this site. Its sits extremley flush with the console and is not overwhelming with buttons.

Ill shoot a quick pic tommrrow, keep in ming the car is apart though as i just finished the install

Pics of install...

Here are a few pics as you requested, please keep in mind i just finished the install, so there are prints every where. Also I just slapped up the A/C panel quickly to give an idea of how flush it sits in the panel, its not secured in.

Ill get some better pics once everything is back in order, cleaned up and illuminated

Shawn,

Did that larger bezel come with the ADT-VA133 installation kit?

Thanks.

let me remember now.....the Pioneer kit had all the brackets, screws and it did have the larger surround. I sanded it down and painted it to match the 93 finish.

Could you list the process you did to match the 93 finish?

Brand/type of paint
what grit sandpaper
primer?
coats used.

used Duplicolor black bumper paint....its flat black and sticks well to plastic. I did not use a primer as its such a small piece, also its not really a high traffic so i wasnt worried about it wearing off. I did it in two coats and used a 1500 sandpaper. Its pretty easy to do so dont think to much on it LOL
