HELP Carmine Red FD Interior

Hey all,

Just wondering if anyone on here has replaced their Carmine Red leather interior in an FD?

After talking with a rep at leatherseats.com, and receiving multiple pictures of what I would receive, I ordered a set of front covers for my FD. The day they arrived I opened the box and right then and there could tell that they were not at all the right color.

Here's the pictures they sent me of what I would receive:

NOW!!...Here's What I actually received:

So after all this, they tell me that the dye lot has changed since they took the pictures that they sent me. Well I think that's kind of deceiving, sending me a picture of something that they did not have.

The quality is amazing, but it's PINK!!

Anyway, I am looking for another set now once I get a refund from them. I'm just wondering if anyone with the same color interior has had any luck sourcing a matching set?

Any help would greatly be appreciated. Thank you in advance!!

Go condition them and then see what you think.....Not cleaner/conditioner, just conditioner

Hey thanks for the quick reply!

Tried some conditioner on it as suggested. Still no change. The color is still way off.

Thanks for the suggestion though!!

I got mine from them also (circa 2005). They were a little off but it was still tolerable. Your set seems to be a bit more off.

Sorry to hear for your troubles. I know it's tough finding a color match with OEM.

Looks like it may be time for some Sparco's

That looks like the material they had before. That matched much better as you can see in the first picture in my post. They have since changed suppliers and the color is way off now. They didn't tell me that until they had shipped them to me. They sent the picture of the previous stuff. It looks good on yours though!!

Thanks!

haha.. I thought about aftermarket, but I want to keep it as close to original as possible. It's a JDM FD with under 30k Kms 95% stock, but the Tokyo sun has just destroyed the seats. They weren't bad when I first sat in the car, just a bit cracked up. During the 3k km drive home, they just decintegrated.

I'll keep it in mind though if I run out of luck...

Thanks!!

I ordered a set from leatherseats.com as well. I'd say it was around 2006. I requested small sample pieces of the reds they had available. They sent 2 and I remember one was a lot lighter, exactly like the ones you received. The second one was much deeper and more red but I felt it looked a lot closer to the stock color. It's going to be near impossible to match the factory color. I opted to go for a two tone since I was spending the money anyways and here is how mine turned out. I have been completely satisfied with them. The naked eye will have a hard time telling the difference between the stock color and what I have.

BTW that was the day of the install...the covers shrink so most of the looseness look is completely gone.

Why not just go to a local auto upholstery shop? Making seat covers isn't rocket science. Doing it local allows you better quality control

I ordered mine from autoleathers.com and i was happy with the color although i never saw a sample or opened the box. They just sent it directly to my upholsterer.
btw i opted for the ROOMS TO GO look on my seats.

Hey thanks everyone for the help!!...

Just got word this afternoon that the guys from leatherseats.com found enough of the original GM Carmine red to build me a replacement set of covers!!!!

I'm so relieved. They worked really hard at this, and were very polite and professional. I can't wait for them to come in!! Should be a month or so and I'll have them!

Thanks again for all the replies, I'll post some pictures up when I get them installed....

Has anyone taken a full black interior and recovered their black leather seats in red? I'm thinking of doing this with some beat up black suede seats I have.

That is very disappointing they changed dye suppliers and can no longer match our seats. I guess I will just replace my seats with some nice after markets. Glad to know they are very professional and worked everything out for you. That is a sign of a great company. So many other companies customer service sucks lately it is pathetic.

BTW. Those new ones look great and the match is fantastic!!

hulan...in one of your pics it looks like the passenger seat side plastic isn't attached all the way. I remember mine were like this because there was no cutout in the seat skin for the screw to attach the plastic. Maybe it's just the picture but you can easy just use the screw to tear through the leather so that it can attach the plastic panel properly.

Hey Thanks,

I have since fixed this. I didn't realize it until I'd put them back in the car. I don't know how I missed it. I used a scalple attached to a compass to cut the hole large enough. Oh and by the way, it's the Driver's seat (hahah)......

Thanks,

Hulan

Hey arkman,

They can order the original leather and make new sets. That's what they did for me. I'm not sure it's exactly the same as the old stuff, but it sure looks Soweeet!

The stuff they shipped me the first time is more like the red that came in the RX-8. Would look really nice in a black interior. which leads me to my next post.......

There is a picture a few posts up of red seats with a black interior.

Speaking of this eh, leatherseats.com has the set they shipped me the first time. It didn't match my interior, but would look lovely in a black interior. It's almost the same as the new rx8 interior. the color is much like this:

This set was all leather too, no vinyl. The leather was oh so soft!..hahaha

if I had a black interior I would have for sure kept these.

Hulan looks great, glad it worked out for you! Tpcplaya really like yours as well, don't usually like the two-tone, but yours is very nice!

Hey thanks man. I'm really glad they stood behind their product. Most other companies, I would have been stuck with the first set. Go LeatherSeats.com!!

Just wondering now while looking at tpcplaya's seats, will the wrinkles eventually come out or do they still need some tugging and fitting?

If the wrinkles don't come out, will these spots be prone to cracking as the seats start to age?

Thanks again guys!!
