Headunit opinions? dvd/mp3
Panasonic:
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-LLPeRcd...p?i=133VAD7200
versus
Clarion:
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-LLPeRcd...sp?i=020VRX935
Which would you get, and why? =)
Yes, I know I can get them cheaper elsewhere, I just like using Crutchfield's site. =)

Which doesn't have a screen, can you double check your model number? Thanks!

The only thing keeping me from getting that one is it doesn't have a detachable face, nor does it mention anywhere that it has a touch screen.

Personally id get a Kenwood. Theyve made the touchscreen 7in for awhile now. Theyve got a few models out, and im sure theyve got the bugs worked around. Ive got a Kenwood and I highly reccomend them due to their quality. Personally im not a fan of Panasonic products, ive always thought they made substandard products. If the Clarion is touchscreen, get it. If it isnt, id skip them both and go for the Kenwood.

I have a Panasonic CQ-VA707W in my FD (older model 7" monitor) and out of all the pictures/screens I saw ( and I think I saw every 7" there was in person - I shopped forever), the Panasonic screens are by far the best. It has the best adjustment modes for normal image viewing, and flawless 16x9 settings, killer brightness and resolution, very black when sources off/dark. Everything from DVD to SVCD to the PS2 look excellent displayed on it.
I wish it had a touchscreen, but they weren't at all reasonably priced when I got this unit.

I'm looking at the Clarion VRX925VD myself. Right now, the entire sound system is removed, so I'm looking to do a nice upgrade.

According to Crutchfield, the VRX925 and 935 doesn't fit the FD, but the Panasonic does, apparently. A while back someone on here claimed to have installed one in his car though, so who knows...

That is odd...I did a search under possible units that work in the 93' FD(non-bose), and these are what came up. http://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/S...=3&s=0&g=62600
The Clarion VRX925VD (no 935) is in there, and so is the panasonic as you said. I'm guessing if a person installed it, and they have it here, then it works. I will be sure to call about this before I do anything.
Nice avatar btw...is that Kyo(most likely) or Shingo?

I did some research, and it seems as though the concensus is that the 925 had problems loading songs, like it would take several seconds to load, and switching songs would take forever.. on my kenwood z919 its pretty annoying already, so if you call, ask them if the 935 is any better.

I always wonder why someone would put a DVD player in the car. Other than the cool factor, whats the purpose? You cant really watch while your driving...Unless its for passenger I guess...
As for the MP3, I think I showed some of you this at the dyno meet, but this is an option, I Put in my car a few months ago and love it. It is very small, fits perfect in the ashtray location, it will connect to your car stereo via the receivers input so you get digital quality sound. Holds 20Gig worth of MP3s. Its also a hard drive so you can take it from computer to computer, its USB 1.0 and 2.0 enabled.

You can see it in my car in one of the pics to the left.

This is a great option for those of you that want unlimited MP3 file storage. I no longer have to shuffle CD's. You can make your own playlists, put it on random, etc.

I put my monitor in because I'm trying to develop an HKS CAMP-like system that can display ecu input/output graphically - Maybe 4 or 5 "gauges" or bar graphs or something
Since my monitor is only am/fm with inputs, I needed a cd player, and I had an opportunity to pick up a cd/mp3/svcd/dvd player at a really good price, figured what the hell. I really don't use the DVD player much, except for music/concert dvds (screen put away, sound is still great) - or the Best Motoring SVCD's if I am showing off :-P
I have a lot of extra inputs, it'd be kind of cool to put a camera somewhere.. Mount if forwards and paint the windows black

Fry's Electronics had both the VRX925VD and the Panasonic, and I got to play with both for a long time, although both were slightly broken.
The 925 does have a rather long load time when you initially insert a disc, but between songs it isn't so bad. The Panasonic is faster on both accounts, and has a better looking interface, although it isn't touch-enabled.
I'm probably going to spring for the 935 just because it is this years model and only a little more expencive, I spoke with Crutchfield and they did say that it was longer than the 925 and is technically too long to fit in an RX-7, but the difference isn't too large, so I guess I'll risk it.
The Panasonic does seem to be more polished over all, faster, nicer interface, clearer screen, but looks god awful when its closed..
I want a cd/dvd/mp3 unit so I can watch movies during lunch breaks, throw a gamecube and play zelda.. something to do when sitting around waiting for people.
