If it's not too much, I would just pay it and see if you get another one. I have yet to put my front licence plate on and haven't received a moving violation for it (knock on wood).
I did get a ticket for it with a parking ticket once about 3 years ago.
Luckily, front license plates are not required in the state of Kansas, and the city Kansas City is split between both states. So most police cars just assume I live in Kansas when I drive by...

When I bought my FD in Chicago they had a front plate on there and when I got it home i took it off ...... there is the biggest damn dents hiding behide that plate. So Never drill into the front of the bumper cause it will cost you almost as much as a new one you get those "little" dents out, since the rubber will just reform. But i have seen some that drill on the uderside of the middle intake on the front and you could get by with that.

better to drill the underside of the bumper area/ top underside of the grill opening and use back strap or plumbers tape bent to hold the plate. The cops will see through the double sided tape or velcro stunt.
Hey I hear that they changed to law on front plates this year in CA to a manditory fine unless you can prove the plate was stolen (I/E filed at the DMV for a replacement plate).
Did you get a fix it ticket or?

It's a fix-it ticket in Cali, and the most common given out to disperse imports cruising. A-hole's prolly won't cite a Ferrari or even a Vette driven by a fogey, I'll bet. Have to have it signed off by a peace officer, or show proof of ordering a new set(can't order just one plate), AND pay the fine. Like someone said before, it's the price you pay for a clean front end. Consider it a beauty tax.

Heres what you do get a new plate to put up front but just lay on you dash so you can see it through the winsheild. You still might get pulled over but its legal an once they see that they wont give you a ticket. Although I live in MN an we have the stupid *** front plate rule. I still wont put one up there. Hope this helps.

In CA the main reason for the front license plate requirement is for red light cameras to be effective. The camera apparently snaps your picture from the front in order to get both face and license plate together.

Let me just say this...go to your local police department and say your plate was stolen...they will fill out a report you'll sign a paper acknowledging that driving with one plate is illegal, tell them your gonig to get another plate at the DMV and just keep that report of a stolen plate in your car...thats what i did

Having a front license plate on your dash or inside your windshield is NOT legal. The front plate *must be affixed to the front of the car*. In most counties it's just a $10 fix-it ticket. You get it signed off by a peace officer and send it to the court + $10 for the court fee. In certain counties it's a flat fine. In Torrance (southern c.a.) they are charging a flat $150 fine. I would wait until you actually got a ticket. Then if you do get one, file the report that your plate was stolen and get another set. Front plates are ugly, and it's a terrible law, but counties make a ton of money from those redlight cameras, even though they aren't constitutional, but thats another issue altogether.

It's All About the Intersection Cameras
Mr Seven is right. Many California cities are installing the Intersection Cameras to bust red light runners. I heard that the law associated with the intersection cameras requires a picture of the front license plate AND the driver in the same picture. After the picture is taken someone runs a trace on the license number to see if the car is registered to a man or woman and then determines the gender of the driver in the picture to see if it matches. If the gender matches they "assume" the driver was the person that the car is registered to and mail the red light violation citation to the registered owner. If the gender doesn't match they don't mail the citation. Reasoning: it is the driver they are citing for running the red light, not the car.
Since they started the Intersection Camera program in Sacramento, California the cops whose job it is to check for parking meter citations have been relentlessly writing tickets for all parked cars without front license plates. I was parking on the street while going to work at that time and got three of these tickets in a two month period. They weren't really interested in getting fines from the violations, they just wanted to force everyone to have a license on the front of their cars.
