I have rockford fosgates in the rears but had to settle for clarion fronts due to magnet size of the rockfords. I think mine are 6.5 or is it 5.25"....

The shop wired mine wrong. Even after reinstallation, the speaker bumps the grill a little when the bass is high. If I had to do it again, I would get the smaller size for better fit. Just get a good speaker and settle for the smaller diameter.

Has anyone tried installing Diamond Audio HEX components, 6.5 or 5.25? I'm still not sure how easily they'll fit in.

Do you think the difficulty installing had to do with them being 6.5" rather than 5.25", or something else?

Has anyone had any experience with www.audio-trader.com? The places I'm looking at locally want full list for the Diamonds. This place is $200 less.

As you can all tell, I just can't resist post-whoring to my own thread...

Now, I'm looking at these:

Kenwood eXcelon KFC-Xr601
http://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/S...nfo&i=113XR601

JBL Power Series P652S
http://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/S...0&I=109P652S++

I've seen more than a few people complain about mounting depth, which is why I'm looking into these shallow speakers. The Kenwoods have a 2" topmount depth, and the JBL's are 1-13/16".

I got a hold of a Scosche (sp?) stereo install pamphlet for a '93 and they quote an available depth of 1-3/8" and max of 2" if you want to remove material from the baffle.

Speaking of baffles, I didn't know exactly what I was dealing with (I was baffled ) until I saw the Scosche pamphlet which has a pic of the baffle itself. I know car door speakers aren't generally designed for a baffle in place, but I'd hope it would improve mid-bass response as well insulate the speaker from the elements.

I'm thinking of going with the JBL now, although it looks as if Crutchfield's the only game in town for it. I'll have to pay their inflated prices.
They're just shallow enough. I don't like the idea of a coaxial without a completely sealed cone (which the kenwood has), but I supposed I should trust the JBL name.

Anyone want to add $.02?

Thanks,

Just to follow up: I dropped in *a* JBL into the drivers side along with a doorlock actuator. And I finally rigged up a sheet metal replacement for the damn driver's side door compartment hinge... that thing is designed to break

Back to the speakers. They're shallow mount (a bit under 2") and they barely clear the window. I still had to dremel out the back of the stock mount. I was worried about this before thinking the stock mount was a sealed enclosure. The crappy pic I saw in the Scosche manual was misleading... So I had no problem trimming it.

Anybody care for some pics before I put the door panel back on?
