Fd Interior...
So, I bought my car via the internet and it had some very miss-leading details and pics but none the less, I still love my car...Anyway, I have decided that my interior needs to be replaced. I'm on summer break from college right now, which mean I have TIME to gut and replace the interior...Im planning on having the seats and carpet reupolstered by a shop in my town with a really good reputation...BUT, I am planning on replacing the plastics and dash myself, so I was wondering if anyone has done this and can give me an estimated guess on the price for parts...
P.s.- Ill prolly go to Ray at Malloy for my needed parts to...thanks

I bought my last car which was not an fd with a few interior pieces screwed up and replaced them all for a decent price.
When looking for an FD i came across one with a few interior pieces in shoddy shape and figured i would do the same... boy was i mistaken. Everything on the inside of these cars is a fortune new, and most used pieces you find (if you find any) are in shoddy shape as well. Your best bet is to take your pieces and send them out to someone who does carbon fiber overlays or that sort of thing and have them wrapped to give them a like new appearance. If your door panels are messed up, your best bet is to find a shop that will reupholster them as any ones you find for sale are likely to be in just as bad of shape as yours, and if they are in good condition expect to pay around 500 or so for good condition black ones minus the plastics which will add another few hundred.
Im sure the details were misleading for a reason. Knowing what i know now when looking at an FD a crap interior could easily sway the price 1000+

My car is a 93 and my door panels are decent besides the hard foam (or watever it is) inside the door that the plastics screw through and attach to are completely crap...falling apart and stuff....all the plastics in the car is covered with this shitty carbon fiber overlay, (the kind the isn't really carbon fiber but a thick sticker)...The guy said it had carbon fiber interior, but its just a sticker over the shitty plastics...Oh, and the snaps on half of the plastics are broken...
-I have no gauge cluster hood
-The gauge cluster itself is going to be replaced after I give good ole ramy a call...
-The center console (like arm rest piece) is cracked and looks patethic...
I just really want to get this interior looking next to brand new...
I bought my car wrecked with a blown motor and besides a new paint job / some rear suspension bushings (which im trying to find) my car is badass...
So far I have a rebuilt motor from rx7store (under 2.5k on it), new alum ast, new ppf, new struts and springs, new pfc/commander, new exhaust (downpipe, highflow cat, and catback), new toyo tires, and i have a 99 spec kit that hasnt been installed yet...
Really the only thing left for me to do is this crap interior...So...any price suggestions?

Timmy,
First of all, call Fritz. He had a shifter console in stock about 2 weeks ago. Also, he may have a gauge cluster/hood in stock as well.
Once you get them, you may want to resurface them to prevent the normal wear & tear over the months/years you own the car. I just did what I consider to be the BEST mod for my car ever. The plastics on my 93 CYM were a little chipped & scratched, so instead of either upgrading to the 94 plastics or buying new/better condition 93 plastics, I used a can of spray on truck bed liner (yes, $8 for the can) and resurfaced the following:
- AC Panel
- Shifter console
- Cluster cover
- All door plastics
It REALLY resembles the 94 plastics AND you know truck bed liner is tough, so your rings, watches, keys, ipod, etc wont damage your plastics anymore.
I will say, be careful w/ the AC panel, as I had to disassemble the whole thing, including the inserts for fan speed, vent output, and temperature and they were really glued in there (and fragile - an dangerous combination). Best of all, it took about 3 minutes to dry.
All in all, $8 for COMPLETELY resurfaced/like new plastics. (Duplicolor was the brand, and I got it at Pep Boys).

So in essence everything you have is missing/broken, ouch... the center console arm rest thing i picked up a good condition one for around 80 bucks i believe last year, the door panels i would try to engineer some brackets or something to repair as those are something you for sure do not want to have to buy. The gauge cluster hood probably hit fritz for that.
The panels with overlays you should probably spend some time on with a heat gun and take all of that crap off and refinish the panels.
Keep in mind most anything you will be buying will still be 10+ years old and the plastic will be brittle still, so if you can repair anything and make it better than it was in the first place you would be better off.
The ac panel was a big PITA to take apart, heat gun is probably good for this again as i ended up breaking a small piece of one and got lucky with the rest of the glued pieces.

Just from browsing around the AC panel is going to run you over 500, someone was selling one in the FS forums for 475 (it was new) i believe and he discounted that heavily from the dealer price.
The gauge face piece i want to say will run you 350 or so, i believe that is what Ray told me it was when i called last year.
I want to say i remember reading around that new door panels are going to run you 1400-1800 from the dealer.
The gauge face plastic with the chrome rings that is probably crappy looking is about 80 dollars
The shifter surround console plastic was 80 when i bought it last year i believe.
Those are just what i remember off the top of my head

new interior! Only for the crazy or OCD types
I replaced EVERYTHING inside the car with new pieces. Dealer price will be upwards 10K (probably even more now) ....you may want to do your research or get to know someone on the inside (how I did it) for a discount. It's insane!
Cheers

Ha, well I kinda am on the OCD side...I live and keep my stuff very neat and organized...it sucks...but damn 10 grand! hmm...maybe alternatives need to be researched...would it make more sense to get used parts in good condition and just repaint them?

It shouldn't cost you anywhere near that much. Just keep an eye out for people selling pieces. If you can find some that aren't all beat up but just faded you can always repaint them. That's what I'm doing with mine and it's turning out pretty good.

Justin -
The point of my post was to let you know that you can buy good condition 93 used parts, and resurface them. Once the resurfacing is done, they will look just like 94's and be just as durable.
PM Fritz Flynn and see what he has by way of interior panels. He always has a lot and is reasonable. I sourced a good condition shifter panel from him for $80 with all clips etc.

Right, but the hard foam on the inside of the door panels is completely haggered...The plastics cant be secured properly and everything is just really loose...IT door panels apper very clean and nice from the outside but is just torn on the inside...

My interior is in crappy shape as well so I plan on replacing everything. I got some price quotes from Ray @ Malloy few months ago(not exact prices but should be close):
gauge cluster surround and hood: 320
AC panel: 195
shifter panel: 75
driver's side map pocket with lid: 175
So it'll probably cost you a little over 1000 to replace all the plastics. Just add driver's side plastics and passenger side door grip to my list and you're done. Those two will run about 500-600.
