FD center channel crackling

I have just started to notice when I accelerate and the nose of the car starts to come up my center channel makes all this crackling and popping, It usually is around 5k-6k rpms. I am thinking possibly from stress the connection has been messed up and some solder will fix it right up. Anyone had similar problems?

TIA,
Chris

Nope, but you'll probably end up replacing the center amp, from what i hear. Those go out pretty easily.

yep, mind did the same thing, crackle and pop even with the volume off. Sh-t would scare me sometimes. The center channel never worked since i bought the car. I just replaced the center amp and works great now.

You can replace the center channel speaker with a gauge pod, or else just redo your system and don't use it. Mine hadn't worked since I got my FD, so I finally took it out. Since your speaker is 8-10 years old, like mine it will be toast when you take it out. I barely touched the cone on mine and the paper crumbled. So, you can go on with the paper cones or just start yourself a nice system. Mine should be done around January. I change my mind every week about which speakers to use. Good Luck!

I had the problem with the center channel speaker crackling. It turned out to be a grounding issue. A bolt or screw (don't recall which) that secures the center channel amp mount to the tranny tunnel was stripped and loose. I replaced it with a slightly larger diamter one which holds the mount more securely in place and no more crackling. You could see sparks around the bolt (or screw) when you wiggled the mount with the radio on. It has worked fine in the years since.
