First I need to know how to get the sound deadening crap off all the floorboards. I'm going to be covering the floor (all of it) with a bed liner material that will be easy to clean and act as sound dampener. The stereo is going to be completely relocated and revamped. I'm going to build some fiber glass kick panels for 6.5" components with horns cut into the dash and 6x9"s in custom enclosures in the back, along with the subwoofer box behind the roll cage. 88 T2 rx7 and I can't get some power window black door panels and complete black dash! This blue **** is HIDEOUS! Where can I find a dash?! If I have to I'll make aluminum door panels and paint em black, but I need a dash!

You can strip both the interior and underbody in less than a half hour.

If you cheap out and buy the Duplicolor bedliner junk it will be a pain to clean up. Something like Shake and Shoot will produce a smoother finish.

 

Spray-on bed liner material will not act as a sound damper and you'll have more noise coming into the car than ever. It won't be pretty.

You can do both (use the bed liner material and sound proof) by first using Quiet Car, a spray-on material that is 3X more effective than Dynamat. I have it on my car and it is the best stuff I have seen. Very easy to apply especially if you are taking out everything in the car anyway. The website is:

You could use this first and then apply the bed liner on top of it if the bed liner is the final material you want. If you are going to carpet, then skip the bed liner and just use the Quiet Car. You won't be disappointed.

 

Spray on bedliner *does* reduce noise to a degree, but not nearly as much as actual sound deadening material.

We use it alot of full restorations here and it does reduce the "rattley/tin can" tone of a stripped out car, but certainly doesn't do an awesome job.

I wouldn't go so far as to say it makes it worse though. It does do soemthing, but not much.

 

bed coating is good to use for a basecoat....... also good to use on the underside of tin work or aftermarket wheel tubs..

My comment was in reference to him taking out all of the sound deadening material first and then replacing it only with bed liner material. This swap will definitely add more noise to the car guaranteed.

Now with a few base coats of Quiet Coat and then the bedliner material, the poster will achieve the look he is after and will improve the sound deadening/noise level of the car. The FC will me more quiet than the original design.

Sound/noise is nothing more than the transfer of sound via vibrations in the metal. The more you can reduce the vibration, the more noise you can eliminate. Bedliner stuff will slightly reduce vibration as it cuts down on some vibration but as you point our, hardly at all. Quiet Coat bonds with the metal and does a very effective job of stopping vibration.

And no, I do not work for Quiet Coat I spent a lot of time researching the issue when i added to the soundproofing on my FD. Search for my name and I have the results posted in a thread. The stuff really works.

 

The 5-gallon jug of Quiet Coat should be enough to do your entire car, especially if you have the car stripped down and you can spray it on instead of painting it on. 3 coats would be ideal. It goes on thick and then reduces down as it dries.

A 5 gallon jug of the stuff and the spray gun they sell (hooks up to a compressor and is very easy to use) will set you back about $300. Well worth it though and much cheaper and more effective than Dynamat and certainly the bedliner material
