I just got done doing this, the center panel is going to be easy to do but the gauge cluster looks hard but possible.

wet sand off all of the Mazda soft touch coating before you start wrapping, otherwise it wont take.

I just made a post in another thread on CF wrapping that you might find useful. I'll avoid reposting the whole thing here, but you can check it out for questions, inspiration, comparison, whatever... https://www.rx7club.com/interior-exterior-audio-26/wraping-rear-bins-894480/

i put a seam on the gauge cluster. I would be anxious to see if you can do it in one piece. I think it will be tough without making the pattern look wierd, especially carbon fiber.

The other problem is the flasher button. You will have to make that hole a good bit larger so that the button can move when u press it.

Good Luck,

-Austin

nice project!

i have just one question, since ur project got me thinking...

i'd like to get my ugly sunroof wrapped... but i'd like to know if there are company that u know of that has a pretty thick CF wrap that you can lay down a hard resin, so i can make a permanent CF molding and replace/store/put away the original sunroof and use sheet aluminum in place of it... with pretty much a hardened CF wrap over it.

or is this stuff capable of undertaking such tasks?

i may just go with these if they will hold up as a sunroof wrap with sheet aluminum underneath...

let me know. GL on ur project! looks like it'll come out good already...

THX

If you want good rigidity, go for the 6k weight, probably two layers, and 5-6 coats of resin on top. If you plan on leaving the weave exposed and not painted, go for polyester resin, as it dries clear and won't yellow like epoxy resin. Check here: http://www.jamestowndistributors.com...ne=1&page=GRID
The laminating resin is better for the base coats and wetting out the carbon, and then use the finishing resin for the last couple coats.

I did my S14 interior with the Matte black fabric and it came out awesome.

So i don't have a FD any more but have these door pieces laying around so i wrap them with the gloss black fabric for fun and it came out good.

Pics:

titanium, matte black and gloss black

Old and all scratch up

Using gloss black on it

3M spray glue

Finished product

BTW i got the fabric from www.pyspeed.com

Should use 90 strength adhesive. The Super 77 isn't to fond of warm days.

Are you going to coat the sills? how durable is the fabric, will it tear under use?

This is my first time working with it but it feels really durable and your not suppose to coat it with anything.

As long as you don't abuse the fabric it will last for a while, i think.

sweet! in for the pics, thanks for sharing the info guys. This will be awesome to restore some of the wear & tare on the hard parts. How much did everything ended up costing you to coat CF on all those pieces?
