cracked windshield repair
Hi guys,
I just got a hit by a pebble a few days ago on the freeway, and now the lines are slowly creeping out from teh impact point. Everyone that I've talked to has told me of a super glue-like gel that's supposed to seal in the cracks AND make it totally disappear, but no one seems to be able to remember the name of it or where to get it. I didn't come up with anything searching, so I thought I'd throw this out there...
I know windshields can be expensive to replace, esp. for the thinner-glassed FD's.
thnx

Crack (no not the kind you smoke)
Yeah there's this glue-like gel that you can use depending on the size and type of damage you have on your windsheild. If the crack is longer than 10 inches they don't recommend trying to fix it since the damage has gone too far. If its a crater type crack and has chipped glass away you can forget about fixing it.
What usually comes in the kits is the (clear) glue itself, a razor (to scrap away the excess dry glue that forms imperfections), these thin square plastic strips that you apply over the wet glue to flatten and smooth it over the crack (it'll make sense when you see it), a nozzle type applicator that goes over the glue bottle that's used when repairing small/minor holes in the glass, lastly alcohol to clean and sterilize the windsheild before applying the glue. The kit is usually reffered to as a windshield repair kit. You can get them at any auto supply store (Kragen, Pep boys, etc...). I don't remember how much it costs but not more than $10. Just be careful, it's a bit tricky to do and really messy. The glue takes forever to dry. Make sure you do it during the day when its still warm and sunny. (PHEW). Hope I was any help.

oh, to give you a little more detail you have to do it in the shade and after you finish you have to let it dry in the sun. you put the gel into this little application and there are suction cups then you screw in the applicator.
