coolest sub box for an fd

Hey guys.....

I made a box for my fd in shop class but I want something more custom. One that takes up the whole hatch area. I want it to be metal and to be able to be painted. any of you guy know where I can find pics of this or a shop who could do such a project.

I know very little about car stereos. I have never owned a car CD player and the radio in my R1 doesn't even work.

However, I do know that the acoustic characteristics of a metal enclosure would not be as good as that of a wooden one.

I have been around car stereo nuts for a couple of years now and I have never seen an enclosure that incorporated metal into the design. The sound quality, and resonance for that matter, of metal make it bad choice for the construction of any audio enclosure. You want to use MDF (meduim-density fiberboard) to make your enclosure. If you want to make a box similar to those in show cars than you will need to make the baffles and structure out of MDF and then, for lack of a better description, cover it in fiberglass. THen the fiberglass can be painted to a show-quality finish. I recomend that you search for some car audio forums. They can give you step by step instructions.

thanks guys. I had no idea that metal would not be a good choice of material to use with a speaker box. I really like the idea of the use of fiberglass. any of you guys have pic?

In my humble, and moreover expert opinion, there is no such thing as a good sub box for an Rx-7, esp. an FD. Anything on display in a glass solarium like our cars will just look ridiculous. Subs are for trunks.

I've got a carpet semi custom box i made in shop class. It holds three tens and I think it looks nice, but I just want something a little nicer that will really inhance the look of the car.

I'll get some pics up of the box in the next day or so.

I've heard sub setups in the bins, it's a poor location to load bass in the car.
