Converting Than Interior to Black!! Process
Hello I have done it at last!!
FOr those who are trying to do it, just to let you know!! IS A BIATCH!! A lot of work!
I have used
Dupli- Color Enamel Spray Paint
Dupli-Color vinyl & Fabric Spray Paint,
I used Vynil & Fabric in a couple of plastic pieces but I found it not to be very strong, it pealed very easily yet after a couple of day it held very durable,
Now i was recommended to use the Enamel Kind and It look very good and it seemed to attached very well specially to plastic pieces.
Both of them work very well yet they seem to be very thin as far as scratch resistance. Enamel takes forever to dry yet it works good. Im going to Give it a couple of days for them to dry and see which one resists better! Im going to test them for heavy scratches.
im satisfied with the results yet I want strong and resistan paint, any recommendation???? Is too early for me to tell wether or not these 2 are resistante because they are still drying, Any suggestions?

Note: I messed up one of the driver side bolts!!
I cant get the damn thing out anymore, it looks like a circle rather than a bolt, How do i get it out???

lol, Wassup Bro! yeah im getting it done. Next week is my 1 year wedding anniversary so i cant do it then. But the week after, I should be able to get it done with you guys.

I'm actually in the process of doing the same thing, except I'm using 3 different brands of paints to get the shades of blue I want. I'm not sure exactly how the hard plastic will turn out, that is the biggest question part.
For the soft plastic, headliner, dash, doors, floor matts, I'm using the dupli color fabric paint. I'm currently looking at using vinyl dye from VHT to do the hard plastic, we'll see how that turns out. Then for the carpet, I'm using this dye: http://www.prowax.com/dyes.shtml
The fabric paint isn't the most scratch resistent even on the soft plastic, so I hope I'm not screwing up by not just getting more of the prowax.com dye, especially since its around the same price. If I were doing it over again, I'd probably do that. But we'll see what happens.

Vinyl dye and new carpet is what i did, very scratch resistant... only problem i have is the, ummm, door sill( i dont know what they're called).. Been like this for about 5 months.. and daily driver

So did you use the vinyl dye on the hard plastic too then?
If so, that makes me feel better (though I wish I did that for the doors and stuff too, oh well, we'll see how the fabric paint works out, I'm sure its fun to strip if I want to do it in dye in the future
)

iVE uSED the Dupli Color Enamel Spray Paint on the Rear Bins and it seems to be very resistant, it just took forever to dry and it got messed up when i put it back on, However I used the Dupli-Color Vinyl & fabric Regular Black Spray Paint on the plastic pieces in the bottom and door sills and they dried very quick and they look pretty much similar to the dash board. Sometime this week im going to re paint all the pieces with that Dupli-Color Vinyl & fabric Regular Black Spray Paint because it dries fast, Is strong after 2 days, scratch resistant, it doesnt stink like the other ones and it looks very similar to the dash board black OEM color

Good Deal, I'll probably wait around a week to install the peices back in because I'm waiting on the carpet dye, but hopefully that will make a difference. I did see some discoloration if I scraped it after one day, but I haven't tried waiting longer then that.

Good luck guys. I couldn't find anything to stick well enough to the plastic pieces (kick panels, bins, especially the vents on the doors), so I eventually ended up buying pieces wherever I could until I got an entire interior. That took me 6 months to do. So I wish you guys the best of luck, and hopefully you won't have to take the same path I did!

The other door took 3 times to get right. And YES It dries very scratch resistant in a few days, dries to touch in 2 mintues.
As far as the enamel paint, I have to tell you it will NEVER dry if you paint it on the doors or dash. It will be sticky forever AND every dust particle will attach to it. I use the enamel to paint the plastic bins. Enamel works great on plastic, not vynle.

Vinyl dye.... i can't even scratch it off the door panels... and yes i have tried... the plastic is another story... even though it makes a tight bond, with an ample amount of force it will eventually come off... its held up good so far though...

I am with Touring FD replace the parts that are not soft. The headliner and the doors can be dyed and i think i works rather well. But on the other stuff just try to peice it together. I am still working on it.

I will post after pics !I dont have before pics Yet I can say that the than in my car was real dirty. Black marks everywhere. Very ugly!!
And for those waiting for results, My advise is that you guys just use Dupli-Color Vinyl & Spray Paint Regular.
Use a plenty of layers, and then use Dupli-Color Clear Coating. It works the best. It dries fairly fast. Be careful though, it scratches very easy for the first 2 to 3 days however when it dryies, I found it to be VERY HARD and STRONG.
After 5 days compared to all the other duplicolor paints[glossy, enamel, dye, and even other brands]
This one is the strongest! I can scratch it with a key and it wont come off. I have to really dig in for a minute before anything happens. I mean really dig in !! So during normal use it will be very tough to come out
Using regular Vinyl & spray paint plus a separate coat of clear coating makes the paint really strong and it matches the dashboard OEM color the best! Its looks pretty good.
I only did a few pieces to compare with all the other types of paint and brands and that one gave me the best results and it came out to be the strongest one of all. I will redo everything this weekend hopefully and i will take pictures.
It works pretty good in all the pieces but for the door and the roof liner/sunroof/etc, first use a layer of Dupli-Color Enamel Spray paint so it attaches and so it sticks to the material It will take a couple of days to dry but when is dry redo it with Regular Vinyl & spray Paint plus a layer of clear coat and results will amaze you.
For the carpet just use dye!! I have tested it with spray paint but i wouldnt recommended, just dye unless you want to drive with paint fumes for months
I will post pictures Soon!

1.- Do not over spray in one spot because it will build up paint and it will look uneven or paint wont stick.
2.- One pray per section at the time and let it sit for a little bit and move o to another section. you can go over after you let it sit for a minute or paint wont stick good.
3.- USE CLEAR COAT after you are done with every piece. it will ensure that when it dries, it dries hard as a rock.
4.- If you do over spray in one spot and paint is uneven or not sticking, move on, let it dry and when is dry you can go over it and follow steps above so its even.

The clear coat is mainly to make the paint though and strong. Its shinny when you first put it on but after a couple of days it matches the OEM Dashboard paint perfectly.

i converted to black interior, but just swapped out peices
only thing i couldnt get was the little black peice that goes on the interior part of the sunroof so i'm going to have to reupholster or dye
anyone have a dye they recommend that matches the stock black vinyl????

SEM Color Coat. If you can find it, use it. Works great. Dries fast and resistant on vinyl. Alright on plastic. You can even work it in to the carpet to "brighten it" or in my case, make it more red than burgundy. My interior went from factory burgundy faded to an orangey brown color to "Nappa Red" Sort of a cherry winey color, with matching animal print seat covers. Very Chic, very girly, very me, but even the guys have said it looks pretty cool. There's 53 stock colors, but my dealer could custom match the paint, for 27$ cdn in a spray can.

You guys are crazy. My interior is to clean to spray paint it. I can't believe you guys are SPRAY PAINTING your interior!!!!! I hope it turns out ok for you. Has anyone had this done for a few years to see how it holds up?
I would rather have black interior as opposed to the tan ,but I would rather swap the parts. Lets see some pics.
Hopefully you guys have mods on your cars and your not wasting all your time on this stuff?!!!

for the headliner, why dont you guys just take the headliner material off and put new black on??? i just did it and it took a whole 15 min with the headboard already out of the car.... but then again i used to do this for a living after putting in aftermarket sunroofs.
