3. What caught our attention to feature your car was how clean it is. We love the way the red flows around your car, and it just highlights the body. Is there any reason why you opted to paint the car factory Red?
The car was red originally; I didn’t want to change the color. When I ordered the rear wing I asked for it to be sent in red, but when the wing arrived it came with the 2000 red tone. So I matched the wing color to paint the car, that's how I got the red on the car.

What amazes me is that no-one seems to have a problem linking pics using IMG tags (leading indicator that they are at least not new to forums), but the search buttons fuction just goddamn escapes them. This is what... The 13th or so thread dedicated to either the color, year, or sideskirts on the same damn car? Good grief.

When it all comes down to it though, I don't think anyone has really answered the question. Some who lived in Japan looked up the color for the '99 Red and it was listed as Vintage Red. Is it a different code than the '93-'95 VR RX7's? It definitely doesn't look the same as my car.

I do love how everyone keeps assuming the question has been answered and making fun of him "hahaha, it's in the article he posted" but no one has yet to give him an actual CODE (the thing he asked for in the thread title ) for Vintage Red yet.
Unfortunately, all I can do is support you and not answer your question.

Just look through some color swatches until you find the one closest to it.

The article says that they had to match the color of the wing, so that pretty much says that the later Red (which may have the same color code as the earlier models and apparently does) is not exactly the same.
My advice to anyone looking to paint their car this color (or any other color where they can't get the exact paint code/color match) is to show the paint shop a photo of the car and see what they can mix. Just have them pull off the bumper and test the color before doing the entire car.

NYC's Loudest FD
You guys also have to remember that FD's that came in Red to the USA were NEVER clearcoated, sooooo, it could be that Mazda started clear coating the paint in the later years.

Red is one the quickest colors to fade/change. As was advised above - go to your paintshop or auto paint dealer (yes, it's in your yellow pages) and pick from a plethora of reds. I guarentee you'll have more shades of red in their color books then you'll know what to do with. Pictures can not be relied on for true shade - too many things to effect the outcome.
