Center Speaker?

It seems that there is a center speaker on the dashboard, but I don't think mine is producing any sound and if I can, I wanna try to replace it while I get my windows redone later on. (small crack)

So, anyone know the size of these speakers and where to get speakers at that size?

go to sounddomain.com and make it search only for parts that will fit your car, then look at some speakers, and it will tell you which ones will fit with no mounting problems at all

Do you have the bose or non bose system? I want to say also for the non bose that there is no center speaker there. Mine is the non bose and I never heard anything come from it too. Then was told that the non bose don't have a center speaker.

The speaker is there, it's just not used in a non-bose system. I removed mine and put the Tri-power dual-guage holder in.

At least the German non bose (never been available here) do have center speakers and they do play.

And as far as I know, also all USA non bose systems should have a working center speaker.

The center speaker in a non-Bose system is different than the Bose center but it certainly is operational.

The only thing it does to the sound is to raise the soundstage slightly.

NorthwindHOst, do a search. There was a recent thread listing the dimensions of the speaker (I took them). Nobody was able to find a replacement as Pioneer stopped making a speaker in that size.

You're sure it played? There weren't even wires on the harness for mine (thought it appeared to be hacked up by the previous owner, so that could explain it).

Edit: Ahh, i see that it pulled from the left and right door speakers....where is the amp for it? I'd like to remove that bad boy too....

My '95 R2 has one too, and it's functional. I didn't think it was there either until I played something with some high end (8kHz+) and covered it with my hand. Then, I could hear the difference. If you rip it out, or don't have one in the first place, you're not missing much. I do not have the Bose system, BTW.

if you took out the original deck your center channel is not going to work unless your new stereo has center channel outputs. as far as i know only panasonic is offering this. you could install some tweeters there.

That is NOT correct. The center channel signal is derived from the speaker-level left and right channel feeds. Replacing the head unit has no effect on this.

Yeah. I have a panasonic installed and found nothing on the center piece.

I am planning on getting a amp. Would I be able to connect the center speaker then?

I'm looking at my '95 factory wiring diagram now. It shows + and - for each front speaker and two other connections going to the head unit. I assume one of them is a ground, since there is a tap into the "cigar" fused line. The other must be a remote turn on.

I'll be replacing the head unit soon and I haven't actually looked at the center channel amp yet. I'm not sure if it's just buffering the HU's speaker outs or if it's using the head unit to provide (additional) power. If it's the latter, I wonder if using a higher powered aftermarket head unit would fry it?
