cd player busted.. replace cdplayer only?

My cdplayer is toast, it plays but only upto like track 12 if I'm luck, then it just sounds like its skipping.

Anyways I noticed that some company's sell just the cdplayer without the reciever.

My question is, is it possible just to remove the stock cdplayer and replace it with another component cdplayer?

Well, that depends....what part is fucked up? I assume you mean you want to take it apart and swap the laser, motor, and other drive parts? It's possible, you just gotta get one that's similarly designed. I did that once and it worked fine.

I would just get a new head unit. It will probably cost the same and it will be easier to install (assuming non-Bose).

I have the bose system and I plan on keeping it. This unit that I'm looking at is the cdplayer only so that I can keep the stock hu.. I don't know if its possible to hook the cdplayer into the stock deck though

If the Bose unit has an input you could probably do it, but you will probably have to get another head unit. I am not to familiar with the Bose units for the 7, but the Nissan ones had a multi-disc option that just plugged into it. Only problem is that it wil cost about $600 or $800.

in order for a aftermarket HU to work with the bose amps and speakers, you'd have to get an adaptor from crutchfield which costs around $50

You might try it by looking at the pin-out for the connector on the back of the Bose head unit and then wiring it up yourself. I don't know if that would work, but it might be worth a try if you really don't want to change the head unit.

if its playing good until the 11 or 12 tracks or so.. whats probly happening is your lens is not reading correctly (obviously) a few reasons this might be happening..one being you need to get in there and give the lens a good cleaning..have you ever cleaned it? if so have you ever taken this unit apart to the point that you can access the lens? sometimes a q-tip and some rubbing alchohol (cuz it evaporates fast and leaves no residue) can extend the life and playability of cd players. also when cds read they read the first tracks on the inside part and the last are on the outside, so when the cd spins, if either the lens is dirty or the cd is a little warped..the effect is exagerated the further out the lens has to read...you follow? its probly skipping on the later tracks because...looking at a spinning cd from the side the outer edge has the most opportunity to vibrate up and down, thus not allowing the lens to read all the info on the cd. if you have a burner try to burn one of the cds you like on a new disc and see if this helps...if you can buy the 80 minute cds they hold the information closer to the center of the disc not allowing for the chance of centrifugal force to cause the cd to fluctuate up and down.

ive had this problem with my work cd player before(i worked in kitchens so the grease got in ther on the lens)after cleaning the lens up real good the problem was resolved.

as far as burning new cds to solve the problem..i have the factory radio in my vert..89..regular cds are always prone to skipping in these old cd players from road vibration..but ive found that my burned cds have no problems with skipping.

try this before you spend big money on a new unit. if anything itll extend the life of your player until you can save up and buy a better replacement.

hope this helps you out i think it will.

Stock headunit lenses are garbage. At least replace the deck, and save yourself future grief.
