I haven't tried making any molds yet. I should have on the gauge pod, may have been able to sell a few. Not sure how to go about making a mold or getting the cf to release. If you have a source for these type supplies or any how to books let me know. I am sure they make something I could cover the parts in to keep the cf from sticking. I did attempt to make copies of my doorsills, and got the cf to release, but they came out pretty bad so I trashed the idea. On the good side I was forced to polish the doorsills to remove the some resin and they came out great.

I think this weekend I am going to try and cover the exterior door handles and the little triangle pieces on the inside of the door handle. Also thinking about making cf body panels for my TLR (Suzuki).

Until I get into making molds I stuck with just covering things.

Dammit!!!! Im covering the same exact parts as you(outside door handles and triangles). My dad has some aluminum door sills that im going to try and make a mold of and do them in cf. I thought id be the only one! Oh well..... good luck. The site i ordered from is www.uscomposites.com. They might have info about the mold and mold release agents but i havent really checked yet. Their prices are really good and when i ordered, the products shipped fast and the guy is really nice on the phone.

That was just a test piece that wont even be going in my car. Hopefully the weather will be nice this weekend so i can take out all of my door trim pieces and console and start on the real thing. Can you explain to me what you did with your back bins? Did you just cover the existing ones? Why does it look like the compartments are rectangular?

go to an airplane supply catalog, they sell sheets of real carbon fiber, as well as the hardening resin, its still not cheap, but it should be the best alternative to having it done

Your pieces look great.

For the storage bins. I first cut the bins out and most of the top off. Then I made a flat wood panel with 2 boxes to hold the batteries. A little bondo to smooth it over and covered it in vinyl. Later I decided to rip the vinyle off and cover it in CF.

covered in vinyl

Riped off the vinyl and getting ready for cf.

I have that same guage pod! How did you make it if you didn't have an original? Mine is from the original mold as the orange FD from SP Engineering. It looks pretty damn good! Nice work!

Gauge pod is made out of alot of fiberglass, bondo and some cardboard tubes. I just took 3 guages mounted them in the air bag hole throw a piece of fiberglass over it, the after tons of sanding and bondo, it came out great. I orginally painted it then later resanded and covered in CF.

If you have one you bought I would be interested in paying you to borrow it and making a mold out of it. I could make you one out of carbon fiber in return. Let me know.

Inexpensive QUALITY work from someone who knows what he's doing. Good guy--great work.

His username on the forums is also mazdaspeed7 (if you couldn't guess) I'm sure if you messaged him with any questions, he'd be more then happy to answer.

Here are some more pieces that Im working on. I am hoping to have my whole passenger side done this week. Including dying my tan door black. I will post more pictures later on with everything mounted. Just so you know they still need to be smoothed out and one more coat of resin/hardener will be put on to give more of a 3D effect. After this I will move on the the Drivers side.... than the shifter console.... and last I will do the gauge and stereo console.

The CF and resin/hardener added to the passenger door handle gave it so much more strength.

Seems like alot of work for gauges pods plus its pretty far from the drivers view.
Did you ever consider using one of these:

I sent them an email to see if they would be interested in making them out of CF, I havent' heard back yet. If some has one I can cover it in CF no problem. I am currently working on the gauge pod that sits ontop of the gauge cluster and holds 2 gauges, looks kindof like rabit ears. I'll post pictures soon. Also got a set of CF exterior door handle almost done.

I got a web site up now for parts check it out
