It looks like the weave itself is still intact... I guess theoretically it's fixable if you pretty much stripped the CF until it's bare then reexpoxied/clearcoated it? But you'd be looking at a LOT more time & money, more than just buying another hood

PM sonix7...he's a CF guru. He'll be able to tell you and explain in detail. But yea, in short, like Lupe said: No.

Unfortunately it will need to be remade to fix it. That sucks, but the CF is a cloth and the weave is the most important part asthetically. The resin is and clearcoat are scuffed and damaged beyond the point of aggresive buffing and polishing. You could throw more epoxy down and sand and clear, but you will see the damage still. I am sorry to see that happened. Just like Ramy's canyard, it was clipped on the edge and ground down. No way to fix has to be remade, which I will do very soon big guy. We are experiencing a worldwide shortage of CF material so things are in limbo. I am good on cloth for a minute but if they don't make more soon, you never know. I guess the new Stealth jet used like 500 composite parts of CF, I read its 20% CF, that is a huge chunk of why this is happening.

If I were to try and fix it, what procedure would I take with applying resin?

My CF hood was barely keyed. The bodyshop tried wetsanding the scratches out but ended up going too deep. Yours are much more deep than mine.

If the hood is not actually cracked or broken (just scuffs). Just paint the damn thing. I don't understand why people need to "show off" that they have carbon fiber. Its to save weight, most race cars are completely skinned out of the stuff, however you notice they are all painted.

Paint it for $150 and it will be like new!

I'm with Corbic, why show your cards? Maybe design a paint scheme that hides the damage and leave the rest bare CF.

^To be honest, I think CF looks really neat and I was just curious if it was fixable. But if I cant fix it, then Im definetly gonna paint it. In fact, the hood is on a car that Im looking at. I guess Ill use the damage to lower the price

Surf's up!

If you can find a good SURFBOARD shop, I think you be surprise what they can do. They do very similar fiberglass repairs all of the time. Of course, don't expect miracles, but it certainly will be worth the few buck they'll charge. If nothing else, it'll be ready for paint if the results are not up to you standards.

Can you tell that I speak from experience!
