bose wave speaker size ??(searched)

Does the bose wave use 6 3/4 or 6 1/2 drivers? Regardless what companies make 6 in subs? fostgate is the only one I have found so far.

I'm planning on adding a sub to my existing aftermarket system using the bose enclosure. As I said above I've found the speaker selection in this size to be rather limited.

I'm not sure if the bose tube is considered to be a enclosure or an infinite baffle setup. The "ports" are rather large. This makes me wonder if the tube provides any significant backpressure or instead simply regulates the frequency range. I'm hoping I'll be okay with a non infinite baffle sub since I can't find any alternatives in that speaker size.

The other thing I have to figure out is what the volume of the enclosure is. Which side do you measure-the gap between the two drivers or the exit tubes. There isn't much space between the drivers thus =~0 volume??? Alternately the volume behind the drivers is the same. According to the Yama book the ratio is 1 to 3.

At this point I'm feeling a little overwhelmed with the whole project. Any advice is welcome.

alright, i havent pulled it apart yet, but ive heard from a reliable source that the speakers are 5.25"s.
two of them, that are weak, and thus have very shallow magnets.
now, i am on a hunt to find a 5.25" with a shallow magnet. ill keep us posted.

The bose "waveguide" is specifically designed for their drivers. Other drivers that have different response characteristics may not interface properly with the design of the tube.....

In any case, if I were you, I think you would be better off using a small enclosure tucked up against the divider panel, like DamonB's design--and ditching the Bose tubes. You will have more trunk space and the sound will be better.

Ryneberg is right. The tube is specifically designed for the Bose speakers only. I remember a couple of months ago somebody replaced the Bose speakers with aftermarket ones and they said it sounded like ****. Try doing a search for that thread.

You're just better off ditching the whole tube (even though it does look cool) and putting in a small sub box. I put in a small box with two 8" Image Dynamics subs. I not only increased my trunk space, but I also got much better sound! Plus, my sub box is easily removeable (I just wedged it in under the strut tower bar) so I can take it out for autocross or if I think I might need the space.

Did you try running the bose sub off an aftermarket amp? I've been to every point on the specturm and back and am happiest with the Bose using the stock drivers running off an aftermarket amp.

The bottom line, chicks dig the snake.

Don't replace the drivers in the snake! It sounds awful if you do - I fitted a JL Audio 6" sub in place of the 2 isobaric subs from BOSE and it rattles the snake to **** - nothing I can do will stop this so I have given up

This would really be your best bet:

And really, no matter what they say, the Bose systems do not sound good.

Wow, that is a pretty neat setup. Are there any sites that sell that custom box?
